If you like, but you can also post in conjunction with Zag, as he is, or so I think, with you. I think that the plan was to have you guys look around while trying to fit into street entertainment of some sort. I could be wrong, and if so, I apologize to both of you. You can indeed wait for us to head off to Tanya’s place.April 10, 2019 at 3:41 pm #17599
It’s late night on a Saturday. That plaza is not a venue for a dance troope. It a venue for a girl with her skate board on Sunday when it’s quiet and deserted.
If she needs to go back on Monday it will be as a cycle courier.

I’d imagine that the plaza would be busy on Sunday — I doubt many people in Seattle in 2080 are spending the day at Church. But I agree that It doesn’t seem to me like a place that would be all that busy late into a Saturday night — although we’ve all had different assumptions about how busy it is, how late open, etc. Usual fog of PbP 😛
Anyway, Zag doesn’t have much need for a musician if he wants to busk (he can bring his own music (and trid projector). But busking while orc may not have a very long half life in much of Seattle, so I don’t see this as a good way to keep surveillance on the building for long. It could be a decent cover for getting ready to make a move, but we’ll see what the plan is when the time comes.
I suspect that drones or cameras stuck around the area would be a better way to observe over time.April 10, 2019 at 6:12 pm #17611
A lot of this is open to interpretation, which would usually lie with the GM, but we might have a freer hand here given the collective narrative aspects of these games. The following is my interpretation as a Seattle native.
The plaza itself is not likely to be busy on a Saturday night, but the festival street should have a lot of foot traffic. I imagine there would be a good number of pedestrians passing back and forth between the rail station on the west end of the festival street and the dense housing to the east. (I’m thinking that the middle class residents would take the light rail to Downtown to hit Dante’s Inferno, Alabaster Maiden, and other bars/clubs.) It’s June, so it will stay light fairly late as sunset isn’t until after 9pm / 21:00. Weather should be dry and pleasant and thus amenable to being outside. I wouldn’t recommend busking in the plaza itself but busking next to the festival street and/or near to the light rail station (with a view to the Institute) would be a pretty solid option.
I was thinking that Bronwean would be jamming on her guitar and Zag would be dancing to that. But if that’s not Zag’s music of choice then he could dial up his own.
Shadowrun hasn’t updated their neighborhood security ratings in forever, but back in 1st/2nd Edition Beacon Hill was an A-rated neighborhood. In 5E that means “high-class residences” but back in 1E/2E it meant Middle class, which seems to match Aria’s descriptions. To me that means the cops rely more on call-and-response options (like cameras, drones, and PanicButtons) rather than proactive stop-and-frisk tactics. I personally don’t think that K-E would bother hassle an unarmed, dancing ork unless someone calls with a specific complaint, but this is open to interpretation.
Separately, the taqueria right there (Tacos Chukís) sells my favorite tacos in the city, and they’re open late, so I’ll probably work that into the RP.April 10, 2019 at 7:39 pm #17614
Yep, lots of freedoms in my games to make stuff up! To keep you going:
– Basement: plantrooms and storage
– Ground Flr: offices, community hall / lecture theatre, kitchens and dining room (big glass doors to the plaza)
– First Flr: activity spaces, lounges, indoor garden
– Second & Third Flr: residential accommodation for 30
– Fourth & Fifth Flr: administration & staff accommodation
– MeFeeds from inside ‘day in the life of my blind relative’ etc give various views of the ground and first, perhaps a view in the bedrooms
– Various ‘patients’ use the plaza when the weather is nice
– Not all ‘patients’ live on site!
– Some of the media output is a little off
– Deliveries don’t seem to match what would be expected of a residential institute and they come at odd times
– Usual mix of proximity sensors near doors and cameras. Wired and WiFi
– Roof has a sensor grid too… slightly paranoid for a residential institute right?April 10, 2019 at 8:09 pm #17617
Glad you like the latter interpretation.
(And you’re right that the BCG can always be jacked up even higher – in JD it already is – even with our more liberal interpretation, the power will be virtually no help at all at that level of BCG!)
But of course will wait to also hear Aria’s interpretation before I commit to any major buys.
Let me know what you think of the rules question when you get a chance.
Thanks for the above – lots to build from!
I’ve got some further plans for investigating the charity board et al – but didn’t have time today.
Will try to get them up before the weekend – but as I’ll explain later, none of it will have to be any extra work for you unless you feel like it.April 10, 2019 at 8:26 pm #17618
Re Focused Concentration: happy for you to reduce mods by half magic even if the mod is higher!April 11, 2019 at 2:36 am #17623
The problem is that the station does not have a view of the institute the entrance is on the far-side, and buskers worth their salt would be outside that entrance. This means have another reason to be outside the institute / in the plaza. My idea is to dress batshit up as a cycle courier. It a dodge /method used here in London to use the metro/underground to dodge traffic and hand the package of to a courier at a station near to the delivery address. It much quicker and with fares capped at a maximum per day much cheaper.
This gives the lie a good reason. The times people do things the places people do them is key.
She just has to ride off every now and then and come back sweaty. We could n place non-wireless cameras and she could collect them.
A closer physical inspection she could just skate the plaza. Her ability to spot things out the back of her head works well there.April 11, 2019 at 8:01 am #17627
First, thanks for the rule ruling.
Second – I had fun with my last FA IC post. But it has exactly how much game value you think it does.
Al is either a genius or an idiot – the jury is out. I’m trying to play his astronomical mental stats in combination with his personal, um, idiosyncrasies.
He is certainly making a crazy number of assumptions, some inspired, some just stupid (or are they?).
So if you happen to have a name that pops out of this little exercise, great!
If you don’t, I’ll make one up and burn some shoe leather on the person. And at that point, also, if it turns up something, let me know. And if not, totally cool of course.
For the rest of the team: This is something to do instead of adding one more person to the army of passive surveillers. Naturally if you need Al for anything in particular, he’s right at the end of your comm line!April 11, 2019 at 4:43 pm #17636
Because I’d written Zag heading home before realizing that there was going to be a scene at the plaza, Zag is ahead of the main storyline. But I had an idea I wanted to write up, so I’ve posted him into Sunday morning, (I’m assuming that nothing will happen before then that will disrupt that). Not trying to rush anyone else, and I’ll get sync’ed back up eventually. Now to write up Sneezy for OP!
ETA: also finally updated Zag’s OP character sheet. Stole an image from the net, since I have 0 Artisan skill. Looks more Chinese than Brazilian, but image thiefs can only be so choosy. I added his contacts and most of the rest of his information. There is still some gear info that I need to extract from the character generator sheet and add in, and it could certainly use some formatting, but it is almost all there now.

Zag has a couple of orc underground contacts. He’ll be off to contact them next. (Smugglers and a gang leader)April 12, 2019 at 2:30 am #17654
Ha, that’s Duncan Wu from Shadowrun Hong Kong. So, yes, Chinese instead of Brazilian. That’s where I got Ichante’s image too. (I think the image is supposed to be for an elf though.) I figured she messes with her looks enough the she appears to be of Asian decent a good percentage of the time.
Looks like Zag and Ichante both have C4 L3 gang leader connections in the Underground. Ichante’s contact operates a little closer to the downtown core but I figured Beacon Hill wouldn’t be too far out of his way. Maybe Zag’s connection is more local than Ichante’s.April 12, 2019 at 4:59 am #17658
And Tanya’s contacts there are all about the money, making the others much better.April 12, 2019 at 10:59 am #17666
Today is chemo session 5. I will be leaving her shortly and will be in the infusion chair for several hours. I do not know if I will be able to post this morning, and may be limited afterwards as the drugs soak into me. I will try, but do not be too surprised if I do not get anything up until tomorrow.April 12, 2019 at 11:06 am #17667
That’s OK I need sleep anywayApril 12, 2019 at 11:08 am #17668
Best of luck to you, stay strong 🙂April 12, 2019 at 12:02 pm #17669
Yeah, rock on Mercy. We are all pulling for you.April 12, 2019 at 12:10 pm #17670
Best of luck Mercy, and no rush on posting, do it when you feel ready.April 12, 2019 at 2:14 pm #17674
Thanks to everyone for the kind words and wishes. It seems that there is a slight delay in getting things started, so I dashed of a post for JD. I will try to post others until I just cannot. The drugs just tear me and make me sooooo fragging tired.April 12, 2019 at 3:16 pm #17678
