I’m penning it as we ‘speak’ I’ll be vague about who is going as it sounds like Ichante is going down there too and separate from Zag… being a dwarf you might want some backup to avoid hostility?!?April 18, 2019 at 1:41 pm #17958
How far from the space needle is Tanya’s place?April 18, 2019 at 1:54 pm #17959
Zag is holding out an reluctant olive branch to Ichante, so we can do that part together if Tecumseh is willing.April 18, 2019 at 2:19 pm #17960
The Space Needle is exceptionally close to Tanya’s place. Less than 10 blocks, although those blocks are all uphill/downhill. Tanya’s place is at sea level (0 feet / 0 meters) while the Space Needle’s base is around 160 feet / 50 meters above sea level. It’s a steady climb/drop between the two.
Anyone else want to go underground? Ulrich? Does Tanya want to put that Or’zet and radar sensors to work?April 18, 2019 at 2:22 pm #17961
Do you want batshit to go get her gun. She will be in the neighbourhoodApril 18, 2019 at 3:49 pm #17964
I am sadly not with you, there is a holiday in Israel and I just spend all the time with the kids, and family and no time to post. It’ll pass in a week or so.April 18, 2019 at 4:05 pm #17966
And I ran out of time on my Underground post… so you get a free reign to describe your route to the Narrows. There’s a recent discussion on SG that might help, with lots of Bull’s input, plus the Seattle box set and other sources. Put in conflict if you like and I’ll describe your final approach to the Institute next week!April 18, 2019 at 4:54 pm #17969April 20, 2019 at 2:46 pm #18032
@mercy, re-edited my post having re-read your post. My tenses where all wrongApril 21, 2019 at 2:23 am #18036
For those of us underground, here’s the forum thread that Aria referred to:
Beta commented on that threat so he might already be familiar with it. Bull had a lot of good input on it, plus shared this pretty sweet map:
I haven’t reread what the Seattle Box Set says but I’ll try to do that soon.
@beta, do you want to drive this segment or do you want someone else to do it?April 21, 2019 at 10:04 am #18038
I expect I’ll be limited on writing time all week, so Im fine if someone else wants to push it along. Do remember that Aria has a post planned while we are down here, so we shouldn’t go too crazy creative right off the bat I think.April 24, 2019 at 1:52 am #18087
I put up an IC post that helps cover some of the terrain in the Narrows. I tried to leave it open for more.
Cara Fahd is the name of the ork kingdom in Or’zet. It translates as “Heroic Sacrifice”. I figured it fit with the monarchy theme that Beta had laid out for the Worm Kings.
Namdroth (again, Or’zet) is a tribe of warriors who claim to live in the uncorrupted manner of old Cara Fahd. It means “strength preservers.” Again, it seemed to fit with the theme of orks carving out / reclaiming a kingdom for themselves.
Most of the other details are real too, either historically (the burning to create hunting grounds), or geographically (the crustal fault line), or semi-canonically from Bull’s write-up (this being a Toxic Beast Spirit domain).April 24, 2019 at 4:49 am #18089
Tecumseh, dude, LOVE all the local color in your posts (not just the underground one, but a lot of your Seattle posts). Great stuff – really adds to our shared experience of the milieu.April 24, 2019 at 12:32 pm #18092
@tecumseh: second that!
Unfortunately my computer ate my original Underground post so you’ll have to make do with a condensed version, sorry… it makes some assumptions and bumps you along a bit from the Worm Kings but hopefully that’s ok…you can always flashback to that if you want to play out that scene!April 24, 2019 at 12:53 pm #18094
Agreed, that was fantastic stuff Tecumseh, and thanks for handling that scene in general. (and feel free to add anymore — I’ll probably have a quick Zag/Duke interaction as we are leaving, otherwise I’m probably not writing a lot before Sunday)April 24, 2019 at 3:16 pm #18104
Nice of you to say so. There’s a big part of me that thinks, ”Well, we have 30 years of lore [and I’ve spent an absurd percentage of my life reading it], so we might as well use it.” For me it’s easier to include it in play-by-post games than in face-to-face games, where details like this usually get omitted.
I’ll have Ichante do some more spellcasting later this afternoon as she tries to scan the foundation.April 24, 2019 at 3:34 pm #18105
That is part of what is so great about it — seeing lore pulled together to be living background in the game. As you say, in face to face it is hard to do that.April 24, 2019 at 5:58 pm #18109
Alright, a bit retroactive but I’ll have Ichante cast Physical Mask @ F4 to make her look and sound like an ork.
She can buy the 4 hits to max out the Force/Limit, so I’ll do that. She technically can buy the hits for the 3S drain as well, but I’ll roll that just to avoid the perception of gaming the dice-buying system too much:
Soaking 3S: Willpower 6 + Intuition 6: 12d6t5 5 hits, soaked
Ichante takes 2S in drain but at least has a strong spell up. Guess it’s time to start initiating/centering.
4 hits should give her detailed information out to 280 meters. She’ll be at -2 for sustaining.
Can you clarify the IC post? It sounds like we’re farther underground than the Institute’s basement, but when you say “too far from the external walls” I can’t tell in which direction. Are we directly underneath the Institute (and a wall directly underneath doesn’t make sense, since it’s not part of the foundation), or are we not yet underneath the Institute (and these ferrocrete walls are blocking our way before we can even get particularly close to it)?
Ichante will be trying to use the spell to get a sense of 1) how thick the walls are, 2) where they are in relation to the Institute, 3) if there are any backdoors or tunnels that could possibly lead inside, etc.
Edit: Ichante will use Magic Sense too. That has a range of 70 meters.

- This reply was modified 4 weeks ago by Tecumseh. Reason: Added last line
You’re 10-20m below the surface and the institute’s basement, according to records, goes down 3-4m
You are about 20m outside the line of the basement but the ferrocrete (approx 1m thick) doesn’t follow the exact form of the above ground building so that varies a bit. It intersects with a load of tunnels etc but doesn’t feel like there are any doors, they simply cut through the existing wherever it suited them. It’s warded as expected so I guess the detect magic will have felt that coming and this won’t be a big surprise…April 24, 2019 at 7:30 pm #18114
Well even that’s helpful, as it implies that there’s something on the other side of the 1m thick ferrocrete (rather than just more ferrocrete).
