Ichante is a mage, right? From what I remember of the hold ’em thread, she can be pretty bad ass.March 14, 2019 at 3:41 pm #16398
Need to work in one level of initation then, so I can get centering filter out the BGCMarch 14, 2019 at 4:06 pm #16399
The run will be in Seattle, where you start before that is up to you!March 14, 2019 at 4:34 pm #16400
And being able to handle some background count wouldn’t be a bad idea in my games 😈March 14, 2019 at 4:39 pm #16401
I can testify to that.March 14, 2019 at 5:18 pm #16402
Tecnomancer dryad sounds better by the minute. Even if it is the first time I have plaid a matrix character. “fair warning” springs to mindMarch 14, 2019 at 5:27 pm #16403
I think of Ichante more as a utility mage with lots of useful tricks up her sleeve. Her tongue has better offensive output than her magic. She doesn’t have the Drain pool to murder people en masse.March 14, 2019 at 5:32 pm #16404
Well, to be honest, she and Tanya ought to get along. Tanya does not like killing people unless it is necessary, as in self defense. She would prefer to get in, steal the loot, and get out all without being noticed. Do you have spells that will help her in that sort of thing?March 14, 2019 at 5:36 pm #16405
Problem with playing an adept is bgc just shuts you down. Bgc of 3 will shut most starting character down (2 levels) that mean improved reflexes are gone. At that point Batshit is quicker than pale horse…. Hmmmm decisions decisions.
Na just watch another episode of TitansMarch 14, 2019 at 5:37 pm #16406
I think I might need to put some study time in to learn something more about Wuxing and its leaders, as well as James, the current patriarch of the Harper-Smythe family. That could be some karma well spent.March 14, 2019 at 5:38 pm #16407

Well, it can remove the penalties for active physical actions.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Centering won’t help at all with defensive powers. You can’t Center a defense roll or a spell resist…please tell me if I’m wrong.
I am not the rules expert that some peope are, but given Aria’s predilection for near-constant and very high BCG, I’ve been willing to spend whatever points it takes for a counter, but can’t find anything much an Adept to do.
But again, I could be missing something.
Cleansing seems to be only for full-on mages.
And there’s one Adept Way thing, but it seemed to be pretty limited in scope, and of course all those Ways are a major role-playing commitment – and not necessarily in a direction that one’s actual character is going.
So if people know some other tricks for getting around the BCG – please shout out – again, I’m not really a rules encyclopedia (anymore…you should have known me back in the SR2 days in uni!).March 14, 2019 at 9:45 pm #16413
As i understand bcg with adeots, it doesn’t do anything to their powers — so doesn’t shut down improved reflexes @electric_muppet, it ‘just’ penalizes much of what you do.
It does “impose a negative dice pool penalty equal to its rating for all tests linked in any way to magic (such as spellcasting, summoning, and skills that use active adept powers such as killing hands or improved senses)”. So dodge should I think would be reduced if your reaction is boosted (as by improved reflexes) but I think soak would be safe? And note that passive adept things like combat sense should not trigger the penalty, it I’m reading that correctly.

The adept power focused concern can alleviate one type of penalty, allowing adepts to compensate bgc somewhat (at least up to half their magic rating)March 15, 2019 at 2:52 am #16416
Ichante is better with disguises, both magical and mundane, so that if someone does see Tanya then they won’t recognize her. Or Ichante can create distractions (illusions) to keep the attention off whatever Tanya is doing.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ichante and Tanya knew each other from their non-professional lives. Perhaps there is a connection through their interest in fashion; it’s possible that Ichante designed something for Tanya to wear, should Tanya ever wear non-designer pieces.March 15, 2019 at 7:12 am #16417
Tanya is pretty down to earth when it comes to fashion. She has been known to wear non-designer labels to society events, especially if she knows the person making the clothes and is trying to get them some exposure. She gives grants to deserving up and comers if it will help them get established. She is also very much into charity work and a supporter of the arts in Seattle. Would we have met under any of these conditions?March 15, 2019 at 9:01 am #16418
So lunch time reading provides the following insights. I’d BGC exceeds the adept power level the power shuts down (passive powers can be reactivated with a simple action). heightened concentration allows this to be halved.
And my imagination is too fertile /deseased yet another character idea (gnome bio ware samie /gun jockey )March 15, 2019 at 9:11 am #16419
Thanks everyone for the tips.
I’ll look into the Heightened Concentration as it applies to BCG.
Had not heard the part about stuff just shutting down. Thought that was foci.
Since my big issue is that high BCG makes it so that my defensive powers (combat sense, spell resistance, etc) actually work against me (make me worse off with them than without them) and I have to take the trouble to shut them down. If they are shutting down automatically, that would save me a few free actions, at least.
ElecMup – where did you find that?

It’s street grimoire page 32. Say something along the line that any passive powers deactivated by being exceeded by the BGC can be reactivated by a simple action.
It the red box at the bottom of the page
