“I did not look for that kind of Energie. Still, we need to learn what this Artefakt did im Detail.”

Like durrrr, batshit suddenly got the hint and refreshed her comlink, Al gave her a big grin and a wink.
She wondered what Ex-gladus meant about disuncoroperation?
She reread the message, <<was the artifact like a portal to the sealie realm? You totally disappear when you go there >>
She shuddered, just the thought of that place gave her the hebegebes.

Al received a call from Lace, although the vid was disabled the voice was clearly of someone who had been sleeping moments before

“Al? What time is it…? Something’s happened to Silk…we didn’t think it would come to this, she must have been desperate, we don’t even know if the artefact works…but you’re suggesting it did work? That’s something I guess but I’m not sure I’m ready to ‘hold on to things’… how long is she going to be gone for frags sake??! I’ll see if I can get hold of Cotton, she knows more about the artefact than anyone except Silk… but it’s supposed to form a connection to one of the fae realms and allow someone to step through. If you didn’t find the artefact I guess that went with them… you didn’t find it did you? It’s a stone disc about fifteen centimetres wide, hang on and I’ll send you a pic…” And Al was damn certain that hadn’t been in Silk’s basement, so either it went with Silk…or the enemy picked it up…

<<Well, she’s got it or else they do. First question fer Cotton is this – if’n we ain’t got the doohickey, is there any other way we can follow her?>>

“eeew, do we have too, if its anything like the seelie realm it will be full of dickheads.” batshit complained “are we heading back to the ranch or somewhere else?”
She continued to stare out of the window. She needed to talk to someone who knew the matrix. She had too many unknowns, too many questions to be even close to okay. She needed to focus. But something kept pulling her concentration away. She kept settling on empty place, almost as if she had just missed something. Something that manages to stay out of the corner of her eye.
She forced her mind back to the job.
“is there anyway way of knowing which realm?” she called to Al’s com link. “does the stone thingy give any clues?”

<<Does it really matter? Those realms are all just manifestations of our subconscious fears and desires. The artifact is likely the key to open the way again. She is accompanied by a bodyguard and not in immediate danger. I assume the artifact is also a kind of beacon: If the opposition has it, she’d return right into their hands. So it would be an imperative to find out if they have it and subsequently reaquire it so we can send a message to our Johnson that it’s safe to return.>>
Ulrich replied after thinking about the news for a few seconds.

Batshit smiled wonderibg what ulrik would do when he had to conced that magic had returned.
“we’re going to have to talk to Torrent. Find out which of his little cabal went after Silk. I need do some geeking see if we can track the chopper down”

The job was tedious, or pretty smooth so far for lack of a better word. Between Rebbeca, Ichante, and Tanya, there was enough firepower to off any wandering toad demon. Basterds were intelligent beasts, and native to the astral, so they knew to stay away. They also helped a bunch of crazy children that are likely to starve to death instead of being tortured. Though some of them would make it, and it was sort of a good deed. In the unlikely scenario that life was all a video game and there was some secondary objective to be ‘good’ – then the team has scored a few good points.

Seeing the naked lean elf, that seemed to be all muscle and no fat in a body that was as fragile as it was strong. Rebbeca shrugs and has her drone fetch some training clothes. They fit reasonably well, and while the girl still looks terrible. She’ll need to wear something, Rebbeca also provides the girl with a comlink and some money.

Dana thank her for granted, she is all excited about going shopping and forgot that clothes were not optional and that the cold could hurt her. Too long in simulations and torture.

Texting Tony, she said >> Tony. I found one for you. A mage or adept or something she throws lightning bolts and fights like a savage, and she seems completely detached and confused. Go figure who/what she is but perhaps you want to make a move. I gave her a burner so, track her or whatever, and am attaching a video feed from my glasses.

Rebbeca shows no hint of moral judgment, and she does not think about it. She does so automatically as if she was preconditioned to do so. She forgets all about this call when the discussion goes to Silk being away.

As for Tony? The immortal drake just raised one eyebrow at the extraordinary opportunity and grinned to himself. He was too old for happiness and has seen many opportunities turned terrible, but still, there was an excitement in possibly recruiting another elf that he could shape to his needs.

Rebbeca looks at the team discussing and stays silent. When she speaks she asks “Are we continuing on the good deeds right now, or can we stop at Tanya’s to take a shower and… eat something nice?” there was no impatience in her words, but she knew that some of their spellcasters needed a few hours of rest, and she wanted to get out of the body armor and wash away the stench of that horrible Ork underground. It was no place for Dryads, and as Rebbeca believed was no place for orcs either. There was no way that kind of situation was healthy for any meta. It was so bad, that a Toad daemon attack was an improvement – perhaps they’ll force the filthy inhabitants to find somewhere normal to live.

    Spoiler:
I tried to put things together, let me know if it does not fit/off.

“It was untested” Lace replied… “We don’t know where it might have taken Silk, or even if it did take her anywhere, but I know that I would feel something if it had destroyed her… a real risk when playing around with artefacts I’m told. So no, I don’t think you can follow her without the artefact. I do know that one of the Patterners assensed it for Silk and they may be able to track its astral signature, but that will take time. If you have an angle on who might have taken it if it didn’t go with Silk I think you should try that first…”

<<Alright, then let’s talk to this Torrent. He knows the opposition and has a vested interest in Silk getting back unharmed.>>
Ulrich replied when Al forwarded this information.

“Rodger that” said batshit, who by this time had laid down on the bench. She cajoled Al into giving her the number.
“hello, Mr Torrent?” she said in her best customer service voice “my name is Batshit, the members of my team have asked me to give you a call and fill you in on how we are doing on the search for your daughter”
Mr Torrent stared at her with bulging eyes
“as if one of them running around wasn’t enough, OK young lady hit me with what you got.”
“okay” she said courteous and cautiously “we have assertained shae is safe, for now. She has used an artifact to reach a fae relm. This allowed her to avoid direct confrontation with the members of your cabal. We. Don’t know if the item went with Silk when used or if those who were pursuing her now have it. To find this out we need to who was after her and where they live. If you don’t know those two factoids then we need to know everything you do know so we can work it out” she looked up at Al “fair summery of the sp Al?”
“took the words right out of my mouth dooorlin'”

Al chuckled at the way Bronwean handled the ork. She had her own style, that was certain. A lot of fluctuation in pace and tone. That was good – it kept people guessing.

For his part, sure, he could have called Torrent. He was the one that knew the guy. Or thought he did. Right now he just couldn’t stomach talking to the guy. A fatalist. A traitor. A child molester. Even his own daughters. But then, what did you expect of an absentee father anyway?

“A fae artefact? That one never did like to do things the easy way” Torrent replied ruefully “Hold on, I have a flag on the operative who was sent to intercept Silk. They landed at SeaTac moments ago and are boarding a flight for New York with a transfer to Paris. Looks like they are running for home, I had assumed they had acquired Silk but perhaps they are ferrying this artefact instead? I don’t know if you can catch them now, or even if you’d want to? I can hire runners on the ground here in Paris to investigate their arrival, although they will perhaps be less motivated than Master Guthrie…”

“do both put a three layer team on the point of landing while we try to intercept. We can forward anything we get if we fluff it, the information should at least help them identify the agent and the item container. The team at the other end can track them and we can catch up and try the extraction. Or you could just tell the French Authorities of an item illegally imported. Then we just steal. It from the cops”?

<<Let’s take a step back here: Where is this homebase? Is it in Paris or do we have a chance to intercept them before they reach that place? We’d need a charter plane to get us and our equipment there in time. Do you know anyone who could provide that?>>
    Ulrick interrupted.

“Ex-gladus, what I am saying is we will try to intercept them from this end, here in Seattle but, just incase, Torrent should set up a tracking operation in Paris so we can go try again in Paris. Just as a backstop you know” she turned to Al “I’ll need to get my car, just in case I need to change into work clothes”

To Ulrich, Al said, “I got a plane. But she’s fer crossin’ borders. No way she’s gon’ beat a commercial flight ta Gay Paris.”

He was on the verge of suggesting they hit Torrent up for passage on a suborbital out of Sea-Tac – the ork was good at arranging things like that for the legally challenged – but he didn’t say anything. He was still thinking. Wondering whether they could trust anything the fixer said. Al wanted to believe that, with the life of his daughter on the line, the man was setting aside personal and factional interests and would be trustworthy – at least until Silk was secured. But he was the same one that had put her in danger, not to mention putting another of his daughters into a torture pod to feed Horrors.

His thoughts were distracted by young Bronwean. She needed a car to change her clothes or something. “Sure ace. We’ll pick her up en route.”

He took a breath. Spoke loudly enough for Torrent to hear him over the pick-up. “Yer Paris back-up’s a nice move. Be nice ta catch these guys afore they leave – maybe if’n we could delay they flight some way – but airports is the worst fer such shenanigans. With them stoppin’ off in the Big Apple, we might could beat ’em ta Paris if’n we din’t mind ditchin’ our toys an’ catchin’ a non-stop semi-ballistic. Cost ta be borne by the father o’ the bride…Cuz that’s one thing yer right about, tusked muchacho, ain’t gon’ be no one more motivated ta git her back than ol’ Al.”

He also tapped out a text to Isaint: <<Where exactly are you now? Game’s shifting to Paris.>>

“so we going to try and grab them at the airport before they go?” asked batshit “Torrent, you OK with getting eyes on the apron, baggage handling and the arrival lounge in the meantime?”
“if the nice man can get us too Paris maybe he would be able to get some of our toys too?” still upside down on the seat she smiled ed an outrageous girly smile, batted her eyes. “please meesta toooorerent? Pretty please?”
“oh my giddy aunt, you do have you’re work cut out there don’t you my dear Al” Torrent chuckled “well my dear if have delt with a few dryads in my time but you are one of the most outrageous, may be it its a family trait. Right to business…”
Batshit shot bolt upright, what does he mean? Family trait? She thought to herself, that’s the second time he had said something in a collective term. she had to meet this guy but he would not talk to her if they hosed the job.

Ulrich replied: <<Direct action within the security zone of an airport is more than risky. Unless there is a transfer across public territory I don’t see that as a viable strategy. I do have a way to get two or three persons quickly to Paris – faster than a comercial flight. But it’s risky and we’d have to do it right after sunset.>>

Al received a message back from Isaint: <<Approaching SeaTac. If I’m quick I can book a flight to Paris right away… Yeah, seems to be possible with a layover in New York…>>

“OK so. Who’s in? Me, Al, Ex-g. Someone message beckie, Tanya and zag? That would be six. Maybe we rush we can get someone on that flight that’s five . That’s too many for Ex-gladus magic carpet so two or or three of us are on the red eye. We need to decide who is advance party and who is air mobile ” she chewed her lip.” Mr Torrent are you going to be able to provide tools and materials is Paris? “
