“The frag? That better be the good stuff then…”Spoiler:
“Ok, come to the old gas station down at Redmont, ask for Badger Flash – You take product instead of cash? We got some really hot Beatles. Streetvalue is easily 20k.”December 21, 2019 at 11:07 pm #23132
”First, we meet in a neutral place, second if you want to negotiate the price – you need to speak to the boss.” She says, and hands the phone to Jawsey which is more adept at negotiations. ”Boss, they want to “negotiate” she says with fake awe.Spoiler:

Jawsey rolls his eyes at being put on the stop, but after getting a quick ARO with what they’d offered he takes the call. “We meet in Touristville, or somewhere wide open. And strictly cash. I don’t care if it is nuyen or dollars or corp scrip, but we don’t have the right network to move your beatles at value. Can you make this work? Or do we need to call up some rustier contacts and see what they can do for us?“January 3, 2020 at 7:05 am #23153
“Ok, ok, sheesh, no need to get cranky. Cash it is. Send me the location data and the time.”
The ganger disconnected without another word.January 4, 2020 at 3:09 pm #23156
Once the call ends AM says ”Thanks, Jawsey you are a natural. “ She pauses and says ”Alright, let’s go to get rid of the explosives, and then of the card. Jawsey can you keep a spirit watching the gallery? ‘January 6, 2020 at 11:56 pm #23159
Mato holds up a hand. ”Hold up,” he says accordingly.
”Chau doesn’t want to meet until 21:00 tonight. We can meet the gangers at the time of our choosing – definitely earlier than the evening before they’re drunk or on drugs.
”But that leaves a lot of time between now and then. We have more work to do. We can all go and leave a watcher or spirit on the gallery, or we can do what we talked about before, namely that I stay here to keep an eye on things while you two investigate the plumbing van that got stolen and returned. Renton, was it? Or just north of Renton, which would technically be southern Bellevue. Jawsey can assense it while AM looks for security cams or other footage that can be hacked to see if there are clues we can follow to this ‘Lucky Charm fellow’.
”Luckily, Redmond, Renton, and Tacoma are all in a straight line. I don’t love the idea of leaving the gallery uncovered for a long stretch of time, but nor do I love the idea of sending the two of you to meet gangers – gangers interested in explosives – on your own. I’m decidedly less prone to explosions that the two of you are, but we do need one of your silver tongues for the negotiations.
”So how about this: set the meet with the gangers for 45, 60 minutes from now. Hopefully not enough time for them to set up an ambush or to plan anything to our detriment. All three of us go. If that goes smoothly, I’ll retrieve the second car we have at HQ. I can return here to keep watch on the gallery while the two of you proceed to Renton. That should give you more than enough time to follow any leads there before proceeding to Tacoma for the 21:00 meeting with Chau.
”Objections? Improvements?” Mato’s hand finally drops.January 7, 2020 at 1:44 am #23160
AM comments ”Seems reasonable to me, I can watch the security cameras, and Jawsey can send a spirit to watch the place. One thing I do not like is having a card of unknown magical effect in a tense meeting with violent people, and explosives in the mix.
So perhaps, I can stay in the car with the card, and maintain a distance to fetch you in case of troubles, but far enough for any ill effects from the card?

”Good thinking. You can provide overwatch and a fast getaway. Well, fast for Jawsey at least.” Mato’s legs can move plenty fast on their own.
”Although it’s possible that we might want one of Jawsey’s spirits with us, also for overwatch. One of those scary Baba Yaga ones, just in case we need to disperse a crowd. Non-lethally, I mean.
”Jawsey, any thoughts? If not then let’s mount up.”January 7, 2020 at 6:43 pm #23165BetaParticipant
“The good thing about spirits is that they are pretty quick to deploy. I’ll summon it here and leave it to watch, then I can call a new one if needed.”
Jawsey closes his eyes and focuses. A look of alarm crosses his face, then relief, and he mutters “sorry Granny, not today I guess”
He juts out his jaws, stretches out his hands beseechingly for a few seconds, then shakes his head. He repeats the gestures then slumps. “Apparently the spirits don’t want to come just now. Or I simply need to practice more. Either way it isn’t happening here and now.”
Then after a moment he amends “well, maybe a smaller, less hostile, spirit. Maybe not so useful for dealing with gangers, but at least it can watch here” Finally his efforts conclude with a smile.
He walks Red-Coat-Boy around the gallery and shows him each of the aura’s there. Finally he instructs the spirit “Please stay astral, and roam around this place that I have shown you until the setting of the sun. Let me know when any other auras other than the ones I have shown you enter this place, and what you can read from them, but take no other action. If you are attacked, notify me and then you may leave. “January 7, 2020 at 11:25 pm #23172
AM looks with sympathy at Jawsey – ”My watcher is only good for short periods of time, as it can only live a few hours combined. I could also summon the man in the painting, that would last for a month but my analysis shows that there is a price to be paid in blood, and well… I am not that eager to intentionally damage myself for a spell. I’ll do it if we can’t get a spirit.”
When Jawsey succeeds she says ”Good! You should be thankful for the spirits that do agree to help. It feels bad when they don’t even bother to answer. “
To Bobby she says ”If things are a bust just grab Jawsey and run to the car. I’ll keep the car invisible and wait for you at an agreed location, providing some overwatch with remote senses, and matrix. “January 8, 2020 at 8:20 am #23173
Setting the meeting with the gang was easy enough. The populated, wide parking lot of a McHughs was the securest and most inconspicuous place that could be found at short notice.
True to their word only two bikers in the colors of the braineaters waited at the designated time and place.January 8, 2020 at 2:46 pm #23175
Before going to the meet, Mato makes AM drive him back to HQ so that he can change out of his Zoé: Executive Suite suit and into his armored jacket. Once he’s out of debt, he intends to buy an armored vest so that he can show off his cyberarms, but for now the jacket will do. It’s warm, offers good protection, and even provides a bit of fire resistance in case the gangers show up with explosives of their own. He knows that he’s going to have to turn around and put his suit right back on afterward, but he should have plenty of time to spare while Jawsey and AM proceed to Renton and Tacoma.
At the McHugh’s, Mato is a bit surprised to see Brain Eaters; he had been expecting Halloweeners. The team already has a business relationship with the Brain Eaters to provide utilities so at least there’s a modicum of trust there. Mato’s is slightly uneasy about the prospect of selling explosives to a gang so close to home, especially a gang that’s facing an existential threat from the Crimson Crush. But the nuyen…
Mato swallows his concerns as he gets out of the car with a duffel bag full of explosives. He waits for Jawsey to get out of the car before approaching the gangers.January 8, 2020 at 4:04 pm #23176
The two gangers – a portly ork and a squirrely looking human – looked up at the arrival of the team. They refrained from waving… barely. But obviously they had recognized Mato.January 8, 2020 at 5:34 pm #23177
Mato gives the dude-nod, the little upward jut of the chin. Jawsey’s a little slow to get out of the car – Mato knows the cane is dangerous, but it doesn’t exactly lend street cred – so Mato moves things forward, figuring that there’s a verbal agreement already in place.
Mato tries not to stare at their fezzes. A bright red cap on the head is an interesting choice for gang colors. Mato wonders if rival gangers target it, thus drawing their shots away from center-mass. Maybe that makes them more likely to miss, Mato muses, resolving to stab these guys in the gut rather than shooting them in the head in case the hand-off goes sour.
”Hoi,” Mato says, approaching the duo. He holds up the duffel bag slightly. ”In the immortal words of Hatchetman, this is grade A bang-bang.”January 9, 2020 at 7:15 am #23180
AM parks the car at a distance and remains inside, she uses the remote sensing spell that allowed her to project tetrachromatic vision to a range of approximately 40 meters away from the car. She used the extended sense to make sure that there are no hidden traps and scanned the nearby buildings, alleys for possible complications.Spoiler:January 9, 2020 at 1:00 pm #23182
The gangers carried handguns and shortened shotguns – terrible accuracy but still quite lethal. At the moment they didn’t look like they wanted to draw them though.
Instead the squirrely looking guy smiled at Mato:
“Lot’s of shiny chorme you got there. You are one of those private dicks in our territories. Right?
Well, this better be Grade A man, ’cause we know where your house lives, eh?” He grinned a grin with too many lost or rotten teeth.
“Got your moneys right here too.” He fished a grubby credstick from his jacket as well as a small bundle of Renraku corpscrip.
“Had to scramble quite a bit to get that on short notice. You’d have made a better bargain with our Beatles. Top quality. Here, a little sample on the house.”January 9, 2020 at 2:14 pm #23183
Mato nods, playing it cool. ”Private dicks, yeah. Even the chick’s a dick, neh?”
That’s funny, right? He thinks about how AM and Jawsey use humor to lighten a situation; he wonders if he’s doing it correctly. His social graces, while rudimentary and somewhat… robotic, are slowly improving.
”Like you say, you know where we live. We know better than to drek where we sleep.” Mato might be nervous at this point, not personally knowing good explosives from bad, but he trusts Jhonney’s assessment of their quality and reliability. And, in a weird way he trusts the Lucky Charms Fellow to be using something functional and effective, which is a bit contradictory because he also thinks the Lucky Charms Fellow is an idiot.
Mato’s tempted to ask the Brain Eaters about the Crimson Crush, but doesn’t want to antagonize the deal. The shorten shotguns would probably have their chokes set to wide, making the blasts unavoidable. Probably not lethal – not to Mato at least – but painful as hell. Plus he doesn’t want to risk a stray pellet through the eye either.
He approaches to make the hand-off, reasoning that he’s a better infighter than either of these two. He steps forward, right hand on the bag, left hand pulling open the bag’s zipper (leaving his left hand relatively free to hose them down with his cyber-SMG if necessary) so that they can inspect the contents. When he gets the credstick, he’ll slot it in the reader on his commlink, plus flip through the Renraku corpscrip to see if it’s correct. He’ll palm the BTL to be polite; maybe it can be used to bribe the next troll squatter they find in a Dumpster.
”We’re dues-paying clients. Don’t blow up your golden goose, savvy?”January 9, 2020 at 6:22 pm #23184
The ork laughed: “Don’t worry. That stuff looks good – and if you can get more, we’d certainly appreciate doing more business with you. We aren’t anarchists – we just have to do some “adjustments” with the recent upstarts.”
True to their words, the stick had half the amount in Nuyen and half in corpscript – although they would lose about 10% if they didn’t buy with Renraku.
The human ganger sniffed: “Oh, that’s the good stuff. That will be a really nice surprise for those fraggers. If you get more of the stuff, give me a call, eh.”
Handoff done, the gangers got their machines in gear and departed.January 9, 2020 at 7:00 pm #23185
Mato notes the human ganger sniffing and wonders if he’s not the only one with olfactory boosters.
He pockets the credstick, corpscrip, and BTL. Should he shake? What kind of shake anyway? A business shake? One of those hand-clasp-plus-shoulder-bump things? The matter is resolves when the gangers don’t seem to want to shake, so Mato doesn’t.
These guys are reasonably agreeable. Mato hopes that they know what they’re doing with the goods. And if they don’t? Maybe Mato will catch a whiff of what’s left when the wind blows their red mist past HQ.
Mato turns back to the car. <<We’re done. Anyone want anything from McHugh’s? If not, you can jam to Renton and I’ll go back to HQ to change and take the Americar back to the gallery.>>
