All electromagnetic waves are affected by improved invisibility – that includes low light, IR and radar as well as cyberware scanner (milimeter wave)
Touch based stuff like pressure plates and ultrasound do work against it
Rising BC will probably break both spells then quite soon. The question is: How far do we have to go and what flavor does the BC have?October 26, 2018 at 8:01 am #10147
The BC will spike at the entrance to the lab itself, natch. It’s general negative emotion background rather than aspected to any sort of magical workingJanuary 9, 2019 at 12:40 pm #13736
Sorry it has taken so long to get a response from me on this one, it sort of fell off my radar 😛January 9, 2019 at 5:22 pm #13752
No worries – but let me try to refresh my own memory here – we are trying to find a headcase that the AI that is/thinks it is/is simulating thinking it is Silk’s mother is being put into, is that right?January 10, 2019 at 5:51 am #13760
Exactly that 😁January 10, 2019 at 7:14 am #13773
And then, if Al gets his way, blow the whole place up.January 10, 2019 at 7:53 am #13782
There are a lot of ‘civilians’ here, if you count corpers as that?!? Even if this lab is full of ‘evil scientists’ the complex as a whole is not… just saying 😀 Blow it up if you like (although you might upset Robyn doing that…it’s an EVO place after all)January 10, 2019 at 8:21 am #13793
Well, I figured someone would stop me.
Anyway, I didn’t mean the whole Evo campus!
Al’s good enough with explosives and engineering he could nuke this lab just fine without destroying too much else.January 18, 2019 at 2:17 pm #14067
What, no one wants to quietly take down the lonely tech?
I suppose I could do it, but I’m guessing Isaint with all his fancy non-lethal bullets or Kayden with a spell or something could do it a lot more discreetly…..January 19, 2019 at 12:23 pm #14091
Actually Deckard is in Storm Force Whisper not Kayden. No Immortal Elves here. Just a down to earth magician with a hundred some Karma under his belt. 🙂January 19, 2019 at 1:28 pm #14094
My bad. Too many games at once, I guess.
Great to have you back, and don’t forget we’re all invisible right now.January 19, 2019 at 4:01 pm #14106
@adamu Sound Barrier is a bit different from the Silence spell. Whatever is on one side of the barrier doesn’t hear what is on the other side and vice-versa, but everyone can hear what is on their side of the barrier.January 19, 2019 at 5:28 pm #14121
Okay, I’ll edit my post!January 19, 2019 at 5:34 pm #14124
Thanks.January 29, 2019 at 7:51 am #15468
@adamu: please can you translate your last IC for me a bit in terms of where you are and what you intend to blow up?
I think you mean you are blowing the air lock with a shaped charge so you can exit…and doing this while still inside the lab? Then you intend to exit (with or without the unconscious tech) and fire bomb the lab? There will be a fire suppression system but 4kg of explosive is going to rip a hole in this place!January 29, 2019 at 8:46 am #15469
A lot of this is just fog-of-PbP plus the breakdown between real demolitions and abstracted game demolitions equalling a lot of fluff.
So first, Al was figuring out how to get the girl out of the module. I didn’t like exposing her to the gas, or stopping whatever life support she was on, or maybe dealing with her if crazy or hostile, but I assumed that escaping past a bunch of guards with the Valyrie was simply impractical.
Isaint disagreed, handily levitating the thing. Al was glad for that solution, plus he’s about the only person Al respects enough to just take orders from.
But I inferred from Jack’s post that the door we came in through was too small for the module, so Isaint wanted Al to enlarge it.
I think the assumption about the door size was just us improvising the story in our usual half-storytelling/half-GMed play style.
Not knowing anything about the rating of the door but assuming it’s badass, I went with a 4-kilo block of R12 – so R24 plus Demo successes then doubled as a placed charge – that is enough to enlarge the door even if it’s reinforced steel or whatever.
Hazy as always, the rules suggest a charge like this will be directional, the force going through the barrier and out (as all the other times I’ve done this in our games).
But I figured we could get some cover anyway.
If any of this is an issue, there are so many fixes…
1. Is it indeed true that the door is too small for a Valkyrie module? (If so, how did they get them in here? Hardly build-yourself IKEA products)
2. Is the charge too small? I have much bigger?
3. Is the charge too dangerous? I have much fancier pre-prepped breaching charges that will be safer – I just didn’t want to waste them on enlarging a door whose size was fluff in the first place.
Al has way enough Demolitions and Engineering dice to know the answers to 2 and 3.
Second, Al wants to detroy all hardware and data associated with this project. So I scattered some single-kilo R12s and sprayed explosive foam all over the place. This being underground, charges of those sizes not going off exactly simultaneously and not placed as anti-structural charges should do pretty much nothing to the structure of the room – at least according to the rules – a bunch of separate, unfocused. R12 blasts against any sort of reinforced structure is not going to be that big a deal in game terms.
Unless you say it is!
Again, Al will know (whereas this is all fairytale stuff for me).
As for the tech, Al figures he’s living his life pairing up bat-crazy artificial inteligences (pure evil) with soul-stealing monads (more irredeemably evil). This guy is more evil and more dangerous to the world (in Al’s eyes) than a dozen vampire or a hundred mafiosos. So Al simply isn’t bothered if guy dies. But he won’t complain if anyone drags the guy out.
So in short, my whole post is just fun fluff packaging the following:
(1) Make the door big enough (if necessary) – let me know what to use/roll, or give me the door dimensions/rating and I’ll do all the heinous math tonight.
(2) Blow up all the computers and samples and equipment in here, but not collapse the roof. Should be easy enough – if your vision of how much explosives that entails is different, great – tell me what to use and/or roll to get it done.
I’m happy to make any edits that get the Valkyrie out the door and destroy all the lab junk.January 29, 2019 at 9:13 am #15470
After that detailed explanation I feel a bit guilty about saying ‘that’s fine, go for it’ 😆😝😆January 29, 2019 at 9:16 am #15471
The door is wide enough for the module, but the air lock isn’t long/big enough and no amount of hacking will override that security protocol… presumably the protocol wasn’t in place when they installed the modules. So you need to blow both doors for clear passage… easy peasy! 😁
Don’t think you need to amend your post…January 29, 2019 at 4:06 pm #15478
I assumed that we got locked in as soon as the team triggered the alert, hence why Isaint asked for explosives. I hadn’t thought about burning down the lab (that usually makes people angry) and Isaint certainly wouldn’t go to the trouble of knocking the lab guy unconscious only to let him die.
So you can expect him to be dragged along as well.January 29, 2019 at 5:49 pm #15485
Great – all cool.
Charge can both enlarge and open the doors.
Bring the guy if you want – like I said, Al doesn’t care if he dies, but he isn’t going to argue with anyone that wants to save him.
