@BB, Jack Noir has higher initiative so I am going to wait for her 2nd pass before deciding on an action.

@Gilga Yes. If he doesn’t blitz to go ahead of me.

@Beta If you aren’t ahead of me, I’ll expend a service from the spirit I’m wearing. You’ll suddenly be going 192 km/h, if your base run is 20. Keep that in mind. As for the rats, once you’re clear, if they’re following, they should hit the spot Jack_Spade marked as being burnable. I’ll drop a fireball or elemental attack in it. That should discourage pursuit.

@Jack_Spade Pass 2 is a complex action to place movement on Preston. Noir has no other actions, so if I don’t post and the order gets away from me, Preston is suddenly the flash.

@Okay so my action is delayed after Preston is in the car.

If he gets in the car. I believe Beta was talking about him running down the road, too. Considering he’s panicking and suddenly is faster than the car is, this outcome may be just as likely.

I will edit if need to.

@BrickyardBabe: Thanks for the speed boost!

What I’m writing up is him heading up the highway a ways and messaging to Becky to get rolling. Then they can try to match speeds (at a modest speed) and he can jump in). Critter elemental attack power gets -1 for every {magic} metres of range (at least per CRB, these ones could be weird), so let’s put ourselves at least mostly out of range before they act.

Blitz! init blitz!: 5d6 17 so 27 init, second pass so he is going on 17, well ahead of the rats.

Getting into the car: get in the car (gymnastics): 7d6t5 3 Assuming that we do this at modest speeds, hopefully that is enough.

ETA: The goal here is to get the Armadillo (and Preston!) about another 45m up the road, putting them likely 60m away from any rats, and hopefully out of danger. This, however, may be bad for Jazz and her van, and potentially for Noir if she is spotted. But hopefully rats will focus on the fleeting prey first?

Okay seems exciting enough, I’ll edit my post 😉

    Alright, great teamwork 🙂

So the two exposed members of the team are out of danger and I assume, Al will join you soon with Ichante on the road while Jazz and Noir aren’t yet a target (The concept of long range combat is even beyond a demon rat.

So if you want, we can soon leave combat time.

You don’t have to worry about police out here – it’s far enough away from pretty much anything to draw attention.

Rat hordes really don’t seem spec ops mo… if we needed any more pointers in that direction 😏

Noir is going to light that petrochem patch on pass 3. Without the control driving the demon rats, that should cause at least them to scatter. The rest of the horde should fall apart after that.

    Spec ops, no
    Guerilla on the other hand…

@aria They really don’t, but the bound spirit on remote had to come from somewhere, so unless we just got really unlucky, we did accomplish the goal of springing the trap.

I was really hoping that we can keep the rat by controlling them without own beast spirit. I guess it is not going to happen, but one day I Will be in a shadowrunning team that has 5,000 rats and 400 paracritters as bodyguards. I put it in my bucket list.

But the spirit got away. While it isn’t apt to have a second effective ambush, if we start digging a couple of kilometres down the road it may be able to a) report, and b) harass us with some of the rats.

Killing the paracritters with your spirits is likely a good idea in any case. They can do that pretty safely from the Astral.

I managed to find some time and catch up on the OOC thread, but not the IC thread yet.

It sounds like the beast spirit nope’d out of there. Is it possible to pursue it with the guardian spirit? I’d be fine having this be a remote/final service for the guardian spirit.

To the best of my knowledge – which is to say the core rulebook and Howling Shadows – neither devil rats nor demon rats are dual-natured. (For the record, I thought they were before I checked.) I don’t see this changing how things played out – other than maybe the beast spirit needing to be materialized at first until return to the astral to flee – but it does suggest that our spirits can’t easily dispatch the devil rats and demon rats from the astral.

If Preston’s running rate was 20 meters/turn and the rat swarm was moving at 18 meters/turn (per Jack in post #11884), wasn’t Preston getting away even without the use of Movement? Or was Movement to get him out of range of acid/lightning?

Offline for a while now but I should be able to check again later tonight, maybe catch up on my IC posting.

    .

The latter. There were 18 demon rats available to chuck lightning his way, starting with 10 dice pools. Even if some of them had major range penalties, he’d soon be out of dodge dice.

ETA: forgot to write what I came here for originally: totally off-topic to this game, but it looks like ShadowGrid is finally back up.

@Tecumseh Honestly? Noir threw it on because she thought Preston was in a panic and getting him out of there was a) the fastest way to stop that and b) a way to make Preston, at least, not look at her with quite so much side-eye. So for me, it was a combination panacea and good PR.

Edit: Also because I wanted Preston clear of the patch Noir is about to set alight.

    @Tecumseh

Damn, you are right, totally mixed that up with the guard paracritters. That makes them a lot more troublesome to deal with. Still, that makes the Beast Spirit’s first action to go astral and then run away.

The Movement on Preston made it a whole lot easier for him to get on board of a moving car

    @Jack_Spade

Looks like I may have missed you this evening – but thinking maybe you missed my rules confirmation in post 11991…it was the end of a page, so easy not to notice….

I’d interpret it that, being behind the wheel now, I can do an Evasive drive by using an Interrupt action – and thus get a defense roll against the rats’ acid prior to Soak.

But I concede it’s a bit gray – wanted to check with you first, because with all this talk about ancient shedim spear graveyards and Lovecraftian pyramids, Edge is precious, and I’ve already wasted one point because I didn’t check your rules interpretation before rolling….

Whatever you rule is cool – just thought it was an idea worth exploring with you….

ANYWAY – I’m going to go ahead and IC so as to not hold things up.
Nothing will change fluff-wise either way – horrible acid damage as fluff, or horrible acid damage as boxes off the truck’s condition monitor – either way I’ll be playing it that the truck now looks even crappier than it did before!
