Noir said we did “something”.
Just wondering if there is any change in BCG-at-orb….January 26, 2019 at 8:40 am #15421
You feel a tiny fluctuation…January 27, 2019 at 3:18 am #15423
Wanted to write an IP but wasn’t clear where we are going. I’d recommend going to the pedestal, reasoning that Maria is either safe or possessed but even if we secure her, we cannot split our force so we’ll either leave her in the safe house or carry her with us (which is a bit much)?January 28, 2019 at 5:05 pm #15461
Ichante’s spirit seems like the logical choice to follow Noir down the hole.
But it’s been four days since Tecumseh asked me to drive Ichante – so to be safe I’m assuming license expired by now.
Looks like Mowgli got there just in time to stop something from breaking into Maria’s safe room. He’ll be immune to a lot of powers…hopefully those wood pulp slugs will be enough…
If he can take out the bad thing and establish contact with Maria, she might have valuable intel.
Al will activate his Flexibility focus now.January 28, 2019 at 5:58 pm #15464
I’ve been interpreting ‘hole’ as a vertical shaft down into the ground. If it is more like a horizontal (or lightly angled) shaft into a hillside, let me know and I’ll do something more correct with my IC post and dangling a link down the hole.January 29, 2019 at 3:32 am #15467
I’m caught up! Work has been a chore; they’ve been expecting me to do things, which is not only outrageous but also really cuts into my gaming.
Ichante will go down the hole. If Noir’s doing something Satanic, Ichante will need to deal with it in person. She figures she’ll be going down the hatch either now or later, so it might as well be now.
It’s 12:30am now so I’ll IC it in the morning.January 31, 2019 at 2:22 am #15512
I am a bit lost now myself. I hope to post tomorrow if I can catch up.January 31, 2019 at 7:50 am #15515
In my last post, I wanted to just charge out to the pyramid, but I sensed that maybe RL or something had been pulling at you, and hoped we’d hear from you a bit before hitting such a major scene! So I stalled and chatted a bit – though I think it is an important discussion to have – that damned ball is the key to everything, and we still have not been very successful at manipulating it….January 31, 2019 at 1:56 pm #15525
@jack_spade: if we’re off for a metaplanar jaunt are Jazz’s drones going to translate across… I’m happy to find out when we make the attempt… assuming we do, but I’m wondering what a scrawny girl with matrix powers is going to do ‘off world’ 😁January 31, 2019 at 3:00 pm #15529
That’s why I left you something to play in the realworld 😉
But beside that: It’s not really a metaplane but a full blown, physical portal to another physical place.January 31, 2019 at 4:35 pm #15536January 31, 2019 at 6:08 pm #15544
Trying real hard to figure out the Orb puzzle. But I’m not the smartest guy in the room. Which is tough, trying to play someone that is supposed to be fairly clever!
Anyway, don’t need any hints – just have some questions about what Al can observe:
1. When Ichante went down, she was literally pounded by mana flow blowing out of the portal.
2. When Al came down with the Orb, did that continue? Specifically, did it stay completely the same, lessen to a certain degree, or stop?
Does the BCG-at-Orb system stay the same near the Portal?
3. For Ichante, is there a change in the palpable mana flow and/or the BCG upon stepping through the Portal?January 31, 2019 at 9:45 pm #15550
Okay, I just don’t see my char cheerfully entering a portal.
If it is a must be for the story she’ll hop in, but at this point, she is all for blowing up the darn thing. According to the stories we heard, that seemed very mythic – whatever lies next seems to be too much to handle, am I the party pooper or the voice of reason?February 1, 2019 at 2:01 am #15551
I would say “to thine own self be true”. If Becky wouldn’t hop, then don’t.
Ichante is going because she doesn’t trust Noir and she wants to keep an eye on her. Granted, Noir could be luring her to her doom as some sacrificial offering on the pyramid, but if Noir wants to make a deal with the devil then Ichante wants to be there to interrupt it.
Staying behind with the orb seems to be a viable job for someone. I’m guessing that the orb needs to end up in this room on the altar when all is said and done, and I’m not sure it has to pass through the portal and back before then.
That said, has anyone been copying the orb clues to the wiki? If so, would someone please repost the link? I went looking for it yesterday but couldn’t find it.February 1, 2019 at 5:09 am #15556
I agree with Tecumseh on pretty much every point.
But although I concur that the Orb needs to end up in the antechamber, I am wondering whether we need its BCG-checking qualities to have any chance in the pyramid.
Once Jack clarifies the answers to the OOC questions I’ve posted above, that will hopefully be an easier decision to make.
Assuming we do need to leave the Orb here, yes, absolutely someone has to guard it – we’ve already run into two weird critters, don’t know how many more there are. I had been thinking Jazz and Preston. Jazz is obvious, as she is still busy with Mowgli in the basement, and her heavy-hitters can secure the entrance to the antechamber from outside.
But we could also leave Becky instead of Preston out here with the Orb.
Al will definitely go to the Pyramid with Ichante – Orb or not.February 1, 2019 at 5:14 am #15558
What is the reason to visit the pyramid? We cannot even hurt the goat spirit outside? So if there is a more horrible spirit inside we think that we can do something about it? What can we do about it? Did I miss anything? I genuinely (as a player) do not understand what we want to accomplish by that – I understand that having Noir lead us there and the intrigue it generates.
OOC I do want to go in because this seems to be the fun place to be. IC I fail to see the allure. Not bravery/cowardice just lack of understanding of what we hope to accomplish?February 1, 2019 at 5:34 am #15565
Perhaps if we are carrying the goat on a stick we can place it there to watch the sleeper? Is that a solution?February 1, 2019 at 7:27 am #15567
Yes, if there really is this Thicket thing with corpses on golden spears, bringing the goat (and whatever is in the basement) back might be part of the answer.
In fact, I am sure I mentioned that for our To-Do list a couple of IC posts back.
Heck, maybe some of us or Jazz’s drones could go fetch the thing – it seems pretty docile with the stake through it….
Anyway, so much we don’t know – we just have scattered hints (and one know-it-all NPC), but based on what we have learned and guessed, I would TRY to explain why we need to go as follows:
(besides that it’s a game!)
* As long as the Sleeper is not allowed to wake (because it is being “watched), then the Orb is sufficient to keep the portal closed.
* Once the doctor moved the Orb, the corpses-on-sticks could somehow get out.
* Without them all “watching”, the Sleeper starts to wake up.
* But he’s not fully awake yet, or we’d be talking to him right now.
* But since he is going to wake up, just putting the Orb back in place won’t be enough to keep him in – he has to be sleeping PLUS the Orb has to be in place.
* So first we have to go and get him back into the sleeping state, and THEN we have to put the Orb back where it belongs here in the antechamber.
1. Do we take the Orb in with us? Do we need its effects to survive/prevail in there? Or is it safer out here?
Once we see how Ichante “feels” in there, we can decide.
2. Do we run back and fetch the goat (and whatever is in the basement) NOW, in case we need it?
Do we have time for that?
Should we split up – one team goes in now to stall the waking up process, one team goes and gets goats etc (while maybe guarding the Orb)?February 1, 2019 at 7:58 am #15570
In the physical world Jazz plus Preston are a team in their own right so we can handle this side of things (famous last words anyone?) while the magic types do what you have to do to get the Big Bad back to nap time…February 1, 2019 at 1:46 pm #15580
Step One: Find out how Ichante feels.
Step Two: See if Ichante can communicate that through the portal, either verbally or electronically. If not, then maybe a thumbs up or a thumbs down, but we need to find out what our communication options are once the Away Team heads off to the pyramid.
Step Three: Depending on the results of Step One, we can decide who to send. If the mana is extreme on the other side of the portal then it might make the most sense to send Preston – or even Jazz! – to deal with an environment that’s adverse to the Awakened.
I like Becky’s question about “if the Fourth World couldn’t do it, how could we?” It would amuse me if the answer is “with cyberarms and Krime shotguns”. [Insert Dave Chappelle “modern solutions” meme.] We should record this and sell the marketing rights.
Jack Spade dropped a hint at the bottom of page 61: “As for wooden implements: there are various tools with sturdy hickory shafts around.” Hickory, as a quick Google image search will reveal, will meet our need for golden spears. A spirit that can’t die, and that’s trapped on the physical plane, seems like a pretty ideal long-term watcher. Take that, goaty.
Do we have the clues compiled on the wiki? If so, where?
