What kind of traffic are we in? Are we on the freeway on the way to the airport? Or are we in red-light traffic on city streets?
Long story short, what are our surroundings like? I’m trying to get a sense if traffic is crawling along or if we’re in stop-and-go traffic.

I don’t think I made it as clear as I should have in my last IC post, but Jawsey was doing short astral trips as they drove along — that was what I meant by “I’m going to start popping in and out of the astral.” (there is not much point to looking around astrally inside the car, the interesting part was whether there was a spirit following them. So he’d go out of the car, look around, then come back before he loses track of which car is which).
I’m going to IC another jaunt, and him not having looked for a little bit as it seems they are maybe going faster now, so he might have missed the bikers pulling up near them.

Okay: In the astral there are two spirits that engage Jawsei as he takes a peek. (Unless he rushes to his body).
In meat space, the smoke is regular smoke, which causes -6 visibility difficulties unless you have thermal vision.

OK, I don’t know when I’m going to be able to sit down and make all the rolls, but Jawsey is going to try to take out at least one of them (using edge like it is going out of style), because if both of these materialize we are apt to have trouble.

Is the -6 from Heavy Smoke and, if so, does the thermographic vision in his glasses reduce that to -3, or is it thermal smoke?

Light traffic, high-way there are plenty of cars but no traffic jam. Thermo vision means that the smoke is of little consequence (get the 6 dice back).

Maximizing odds of 3 actions seems more important than being 100% sure of going first, so Jawsey will blitz:

He has 13 dice when attacking with his weapon focus. I think the reach is 1 on the sword cane (I missed writing it down, but I know it has some reach). So -1 defense for the spirit.
No pre-edge, will likely re-roll fails.

Hmm, I’d like to keep all the successes, so will post edge (I forget what it is called, where you roll your edge dice (with exploding sixes) and remove the limit.

Sadly, in my IC I mentioned him going after a spirit. It would have made more sense to attack the dual-natured biker who is likely the summoner, but I was reacting to the IC originally, which only mentioned the spirits. Here’s Mato’s remaining six dice for driving with thermographic vision:
Thermographic Vision 6: 6d6t5 3 hits
Pretty good. Combined with the earlier roll, that makes 4 hits total. That should be enough to perform Easy or Average driving tasks (threshold 1 or 2) in a Restricted (“light traffic”) terrain environment (+2 threshold).
If things get really hairy, maybe I’ll fork over the karma for Steely Eyed Wheelman. An earlier version of Mato had it until I dropped it in favor of Redliner.
What’s the range to the bikers? Are any of them close enough to get side-swiped or are they all acting (e.g. firing) from a distance?

so you hit with +3 net hits.
resist damage: 6d6t5 2
spirit takes 12 damage and is disrupted.
Fix: Forgot about reach – but the spirit is still disrupted so doesn’t matter.
The second spirit would try to strike back.

I’m going to preemptively declare Evasive Driving (from p. 205), which is like Full Defense except it uses Intuition instead of Willpower. That will drop Mato’s initiative to 8.
As a Free Action, Mato will order the Americar to lower the driver’s side window. The idea will be to attack out of it at a later point, although I’ll understand if the GM wants to wait until the second initiative pass or even second combat turn for the window to be actually open.February 1, 2019 at 3:23 pm #15586
Separately, I think Astral Combat is niche but underappreciated. Case in point: Jawsey one-shotting an F6 spirit on Full Defense. Pity there isn’t anyone else to see it ICly.
Also, I’m not even sure Beta rolled his full dice pool. I think he left off 1 die for his weapon focus, which applies in astral combat too (see page 320). So he could have killed it even more dead.
