“Me? Oh, no, I’m fine. Though…” Caroline cocked her head to the side “Be careful with Milo. Talis might be what’s called a Spirit of Man, she’s still a Spirit first and foremost, nothing will change that and I have no idea where it’s going to go…”
After a small pause where she looked at the fire, frowning, she added “Oh by the way, my offer to allow others to test how it is to take animal shapes is still valid if anyone wants to.”

The jaguar lazily opened an eye to look at Rhea then chuffed to signify her agreement. When asked a question, she turned her head in Rhea’s direction, looked around for a second or two to make sure no one else was around, then sat. A moment later, it was Caroline in her normal, elven, form that was sitting, as naked as the day she was born “It’s not addictive no. If I do prefer to stay in that form rather than in this one it’s mostly because it’s so much easier to walk in the jungle like that: I don’t tire, I don’t sweat, I can see, hear and smell everything. Plus, there’s the whole naked problem when I get back to my normal form. But no, I wouldn’t want to remain in animal form forever, long term it would be really boring.”

Sure, it’ll probably be more convenient for you to have everything in one single site anyway.
Plus maybe that way we’d get new players when you feel up to it 🙂

So I’ve finished reading the whole Cynthia & Jeremiah thread, and I’ve created two files:
– One is a mind-map showing everything Cynthia learned: here. It’s a bit messy at times, but hopefully there’s nothing too important missing.
– The second one is a sort of agenda, things for Cynthia to do: here. I’ve put links to the relevant messages where it may be needed.With all that, I hope we won’t miss anything 🙂

Contrary to pretty much anyone else in the expedition, Caroline enjoyed the trip, and was not tired at all at the end of each day. It was not to say that she didn’t do anything, far from it, but what she did, she did as either a jaguar or an hawk, sharing whatever she found with the rest of the expedition via Talis and Milo. She seemed so much at ease in the jungle that she didn’t spend much more than a couple of hours under her tent each night.
From time to time, she could be seen behind a tree, or trotting near one of the mules, but it was never for long, completely at home in the jungle to the point that in the past week, she barely spoke a word to anyone. In a few cases, while she had been in her jaguar form, she had been reported to be playing – then hunting – with another jaguar she had met in the day.
One thing she did seem to enjoy in the camp was to near the fire, much like she was doing at the moment, her eyes half-closed. Given how her ears twitched though, it was obvious she was paying attention to what happened around her.

Great news!For some reason I haven’t received any notification from this site when the threads were updated, but I’ll jump right back in (once I’m up to date considering that I seem to have a bit to read now…)
Oh and I’ve just seen your PM, hell yes I’m still interested in Cynthia, I’ve missed her something fierce!

I don’t know if I mentioned it before, but I’m working on DNA related stuff and in the lab I’m in, some people are working on cancers. One of the first things I learned is that asking for a treatment based on the DNA analysis of the tumor’s cells can have a huge impact on the prognosis: a cancer is caused among other things by DNA mutations, so some drugs will work better in some cases than in others.
I don’t know if it would apply in your case, much less if it’s even a possibility (I suppose it depends on stuff like insurance in the US?), but it can’t hurt to talk about it to your doctor.Take care, we’ll be there whenever you want 🙂

Caroline caught snack and looked at it for a second, then stashed it in one of her pants pockets “Oh, thanks. I’ll keep that for later when we’d kill for something nice to eat then. I’m afraid I don’t have anything to give you though, I didn’t have much time to pack my things and only went for the essential.”
She sat on a bench to eat a bit and asked “So, what is it you wanted to talk about?”

She didn’t really think that, and she certainly didn’t want to find herself in a position wher she’d had to lead, period. It didn’t mean however than she shouldn’t be ready in case it happened. A bit more than three hours later, Caroline woke up, as she always did. For some reason, she had never needed much sleep, no matter the circumstances. It had never been a problem at home since she had plenty to do without anyone to annoy, but in a camp in the middle of the nowhere, it could make things a bit difficult. Though she had always found things to do. First order of business would be to go find something to eat: more hours of activity of course meant greater food consumption. As silently as she could she got dressed and exited the tent to go find something to eat.
It’s only then that she noticed the message she had received earlier. She texted back »Zen [Caroline]: I’m awake, so when you want. I’m getting something to eat.«”

Caroline shook her head. She didn’t mind the tattoos. She didn’t particularly mind the scars. She did mind that they were in the middle of a busy camp, with next to no privacy. But there were far more important reasons. First, the woman was a Vory. She may have tentatively agreed to not see them as nothing else than hardened criminals, but even if that were true, they were criminals, belonging to a dreadful syndicate dealing in all sorts of terrible things. Second, she wasn’t much for casual sex. She didn’t mind girls – and it wouldn’t be a first for her – but she needed more than just… well, sex. She was… one way to say it was romantic she supposed…
She didn’t talk about any of that though, and instead focused on the third reason, which was sufficient in its own right anyway “We may not be in the same chain of command at the moment, but it may change. What if Alyce becomes incapacitated at some point?” She shook her head “And even if that didn’t happen, I do not mix work with this kind of activities. It only creates problems down the road, I given the situation, complications is the last thing I want.”

Caroline shrugged, a bit ill at ease “Yeah well, I don’t see it at the moment.” She shook her head, then looked at Marina, clearly surprised. She answered slowly, as if she were thinking about it as she was talking “I’m not mad. Surprised, I suppose. But… Even if I’d be into that…” She shook her head “It wouldn’t happen here. It couldn’t happen here.”

“While it’s true no one would expect a jaguar with a meta-human’s mind, the best advantage comes from the simple fact that no one expects a jaguar to be anything else than an animal. Or a rat, a crow, whatever. It’s not all perfect though. Any Awakened who tries to look into the Astral for some reason will see that it’s a spell. So they could either try to interrupt the spell or maybe worse, make you believe you fooled them. The surprise advantage would be on their side, not yours…”
She nodded then, to confirm Marina’s questions “I’m not a Vory no. Just a simple French student.”

“No.” Caroline shook her head, stopped, frowning “Well, I could have them levivate behind me, but that would be stupid.” She shrugged “As for communications, I handle it with a spirit to relay whatever I need to say, but I know a spell creating a link mind-to-mind which is particularly useful for it. In those shapes, we have everything we need to communicate with the animals, but since we don’t know how, it wouldn’t make sense to them, outside of the basics: raise your tail, show your fangs, etc.“

Caroline was a bit surprised when the “dog” left the tent like that, but didn’t follow. She would come back soon, and since the transformation didn’t impair cognitive functions everything should be alright. Instead, she got ready to sleep, and got into her sleeping bag. When her tentmate came back and sat, she removed the spell “Everything alright?”

“Hmm…” Caroline looked at the woman for a few seconds “A dog is generally a safe bet for most people. Or humans at least. Wouldn’t work for trolls or most orks.” She seemed to think about that for a second or two, then shook her head “Anyway… Rottweiler ok with you? It’s a powerful dog, often used for security.”
Once she said she was ok with it, Caroline nodded. Before she cast the spell though, she added “You better get naked though. Believe me, you don’t want to have to deal with your clothes.” When she’s ready, Caroline casts the spell, as if it were nothing. And in those conditions…it really was nothing.

Caroline changed back to her normal shape, standing naked in the tent. At the question, she snorted “Snakes? That’s a bit limited… Sure you can bite and maybe constrict, but you’re not exactly very mobile…” She shook her head “And it doesn’t hurt no, you don’t feel a thing. It’s weird the first few times, or when switching to a new shape, but that’s all. If you want, I can do it for you?” Caroline put a t-shirt on, and cocked an eyebrow.
