Interest check for new 2077 Run
Posted by jack_spade on October 2, 2018 at 10:36 amDear chummers,
Aria asked me, if I’d be interested to GM a new run, since our ranks are a bit depleted of late.
BoS Seems to have the most remaining participation, with Adamu, Aria, Beta and Gilga as well as myself. The topic of the campaign will be an Artifact hunt in a more rural environment on the mainland US (so expect less gangs and police and more rednecks and paracritters to be your opponents)
Existing characters are welcome just as much as new blood. Aria’s rules about advancement and character build stay in effect.
Best regards
Jack

Dude – I’m in of course.
2077?
Okay, Al is busy chasing down Horrors in SoP around March.
But May-June are open.
Also, could easily take a break from Stillwater sometime between July and October.
Told Aria I’d try to come up with a little something myself in the coming weeks.
Ideas percolating, but, as you can see by my scarce posting recently, RL has been even busier than usual lately….working on it, though…. -
Interested for sure!
Not sure if I’d port (or semi-port?) a character or start fresh. New characters use standard build rules?
-
Yes, although as usual you can get Karma with a nice char sheet. All build rules are accepted.
-
I’m hoping to dust off Preston, who I’d been playing one-on-one with Mercy before life got crazy last year. I need to spend a bit of time with the character sheet to see if the karma and nuyen saved up can fix a poorly done build.
He was meant to be basically a hacker with a cyber-arm and good sneaking and disguise abilities, but I hadn’t really understood hacking at the time. Backstory is that he’d been apprenticed to a bounty hunter, providing back up and matrix support, until a job went horrifically wrong and his mentor was eaten by hellhounds. Preston salvaged and implanted the dead mentor’s cyber-arm, and between one thing and another he hasn’t been quite right since.
* Gamma: many people have various thought patterns, often traceable to distinct influences in their life.
* Coleman: Being able to separate perspectives can be of a tactical and strategic advantage.
* Oleg: But letting thoughts have their own identity is just plain crazy! I can’t let anyone know about this.
* Eliza: I’m always careful in my communication — mostly careful not to stand out, such that people just don’t think about me.
* Monkey: Which is STUPID! How am I going to get all the hotties into bed if they aren’t thinking about me? Maybe novacoke would help?(there could also be the question if everyone else could deal with having to read the voices in his head?)
If I don’t end up playing Preston, I’ll make someone in the same general role (minus the extra mental voices), so as not to throw off other people’s plans.

sending a direct message, so as not to talk about people in public.

I’m in 🙂
Builds… 1000karmagen, sum 14 prime (only two ‘A’s please) would be ok in any game I’ve run, @Jack_Spade would need to confirm that’s ok?! It’s high power stuff but then Al and Isaint are uber so these would still pale beside them 😀
Timeline wise I’d suggest end of 2077 would provide a bit more flexibility as Silk has Al and Isaint running errands in Oct. Or even early 2078 would be fine! Becky would have had plenty of time to hone her talents, you could even dig up some of the Run! characters if they’ve fallen in to the shadows since those events? For reference the events in that thread were loosely 2076… just what is Addie doing now? If this is a wilderness type mission she’d have some unique insights!
All my games are intertwined, it’s why Aria and Summer showed up in Run! For example…paving the way ?
-
Yeah, that’s totally fine by me. Early 2078 would also have the benefit of allowing the new Kill Code stuff to be on the market ^^
-
I’ll play around with some character ideas – always have more than I’ve got time to play ?
Team Roles so far (?):
Generalist – Al
Matrix – Preston?
Face/combat – BeckySounds like key bases are covered apart from magic perhaps?
With Kill Code out I might finally try and stat Jazz again, technorigger specialising in drones
-
Jack, what is your feeling on Becky and Preston — to rebuild on a higher basis, or just keep them where we are at?
-
7 years of running the shadows should see some improvement for Becky, or a messy death ?
TC is set in 2075 isn’t it? Reasonable to suppose Preston would have adapted to survive too! Plenty of precedent for up skilling a character, but as you say, this is Jack’s game and his call ?
-
Wait a minute, I just realized that for a mundane human, there is only one sum-to-14 build! :p
(unless you take the lucky quality and don’t mind having some wasted special attribute).
For now I’m working on updating Preston based on what he had saved up in TC. A touch more skill, some new ‘ware, and shifting around some negative qualities should let him function at 5 more dice on key matrix roles, which gets him into the right sort of range. If it is a re-build to sum-to-14 he just gets more edge and a bunch more nuyen, as he was an EAEAC build originally)
-
I’m honestly fine either way: Your character should have the abilities you need to have the character you envision. Having a competent character makes my job easier since I don’t have to pull my punches for the sake of the story 😀
-
Time to get this show on the road.
While you think about your character, you can get ready for a visit to the CAS: All characters find themselves for one reason or another in San Angelo, Texas, close to the Atzlan border. -
Hi all.
Jack invited me to check out the thread and I’m tentatively interested. I once ran 4-year PbP campaign in a rural setting (Cascade mountains of Salish-Shidhe) so I love getting out of the city.
Are there character sheets available anywhere? It sounds like everyone is getting a major upgrade but I’m curious what the core competencies are beyond the one-word descriptions in Aria’s post.
From Aria’s post it sounds like magic is a gap on the team – especially if Aria goes technorigger – and magic is a strength of mine. The only roadblock might be that I have much more experience with low-powered campaigns than with high-powered games, and my mind is kind of reeling at the prospect of Sum-to-14. I need to wrap my brain around some of the possibilities; hopefully I don’t have a crisis of imagination.
Are there other house rules to review, or matters of etiquette that might not be obvious to an outsider?
-
I try to stay close to the rules. Karma and money flow at 2000 Nuyen and 1 Karma per post.
Edge regain follows the usual rules, i.e. most often through a good meal and a full night’s sleep.
Don’t worry too much about power, just play what you feel comfortable with. Everything else flows from there. -
Karma rewards are 1 per 2 IC posts, plus some additional for writing up NPCs / background etc on our Obsidian Portal page. Oh and 40 free contact points in addition to normal. When I’m not on my phone I’ll dig out the links if you need them… and invite you to OP if you’re not already on it?
