    No pricing on Athame’s, so I took the price of an enchanting focus (4k * force), and applied the simple 5% * loyalty level for simple fencing through a contact — trying to flog it for a better price also risked attracting negative attention. All the bargaining in the IC was just for colour. Then because Gau would be cash strapped currently, I split the payment in two, with the idea of 250 each ‘now’ and 250 each coming in at the start of Jack’s episode, so having a bit of cash in hand.

    @gilga Sounds good.

    @beta Deferred payment is clever.

    I have a slightly indulgent IC post that focuses on what Mato will be working on between sessions, namely Charisma and social skills. Some of his other downtime activities will also pop up in the Interlude, or at least help explain his absence there.

    Is there anything else we want to cover in Chapter 3 before moving on?

    I’m good to move on.

    One loose end that anyone can feel free to work with, or not *: The people at The Hostel will eventually find that Ceasar is missing, that her room is ransacked, that there is some of her blood on a wall, and that her pillow-case is missing. They are certainly smart enough to know that one thing that happened in the time frame of where that could have happened was Bobby wandering around, oddly dressed and carrying something in a pillow-case. Mato and AM would certainly have been noted to have been there around that time and then left before the debate happened.

    No police show up, so either they didn’t inform KE for whatever reason (or they somehow didn’t have good images of the team?).

    * I don’t have any current plans to follow up on this. Not saying that it couldn’t happen if I GM another event, but absolutely no plans.

    Good to move on.

    I must admit that I do not understand the relationship between Ceaser and the Hostel… Why would they go looking for her? They may clean the blood during room service, and then when she does not pay the bill – what would they do?

    I may not have explained The Hostel too well, sorry. I was trying not to pump out too many words on what was supposed to just be quirky location for some action. Here is some more info on it, in case anyone cares.

    Designers notes on The Hostel:

    – The Hostel is more-or-less a collective or commune. Technically it is a corporation and current residents hold voting shares (but they have to sell them when they move out). Some person or organization funded its initial creation a few decades back and holds the common shares, but doesn’t much mess with its operations).
    – It was established as a place for (mostly) post-graduate students to live cheaply while they work whatever research or teaching contracts they can scrounge up. Part of living cheaply is that everyone has to contribute to the operation of the whole.
    – It is a self-selecting group (when there is an opening they interview prospective members and select who they like).
    – It has a fairly complicated charter and constitution, with the three immutable parts amounting to
    a) it should seek a diversity of specialties to create cross-pollination of ideas,
    b) when someone takes a long term, decently paying, job they have to move out, and
    c) everyone contributes based on their abilities (so if someone lands a lucrative contract, they will have to pay a substantial portion into the common fund).
    – Early residents created a system of constantly surveying members about current issues facing the The Hostel, ranging from “should we finally pay to get the kitchen ventilation system fixed properly” to “someone wants this visitor at a party kicked out because <reasons>: agree or disagree?” There are rumours that one of the people who set up The Hostel’s consultation system later helped create Horizon’s ‘Consensus’ system.
    – As might be expected from a place that has been developed and maintained by a revolving set of bright but poor young adults for decades, they have some systems that work brilliantly, some poorly, and perhaps most commonly ‘mostly brilliant but with a couple of major failings, but nobody wants to reverse engineer the whole thing to figure out how to fix the problems.’
    – It isn’t common, but people have occasionally been abducted from The Hostel by shadowrunners. Sometimes corps have odd ways of recruiting or of gathering information.

    Neat backstory. Thanks for writing it up.

    Speaking of backstory, I’ve updated the wiki page that has what we know about the neighborhood:

    https://stormy-waters-2075.obsidianportal.com/wikis/touristville

    I somehow omitted the Crimson Crush originally, which is an egregious, embarrassing oversight.
