    Yeah, sounds reasonable enough – I don’t mind martial arts being what they are (and it’s quite nice to have an option not to kill in beast form), but I don’t need a discount on Karma especially.

    @beta
    Any opinions on the house rules at the bottom of page 10?

    @gilga, @jack_spade
    Any opinions on what to run next?

    I’m pretty easy on the topic, but since you asked:
    1) I had planned on buying Arcana in game, but I’m not too worried about paying full price
    2) I’m good either way. If people want to use Chummer or Aria’s spreadsheet so would prefer standard breakdown that is fine by me, but characters were built under the more compressed list. For Jawsey going Small arms 1 to automatics 1 is not a huge deal
    3-8) Might as well go standard as it is easier to remember. (Unless someone is counting on any of these, in which case I’d say use what was expected.)
    9) You know what? I think it would be cool to keep this one, and explain it as our backers in the Sioux give us a bit of support in this way. But I’m entirely happy to go to standard (especially if other people would like a more standard character sheet*)

    * standard character generators won’t really work for Jawsey because he used the house-ruled Magic D full mage option, so I’m not particularly motivated by that one.

    On “what next” if you have an interlude, I can have something ready next week (well, apparently the neo-anarchist streetpedia is dropping next week and is full of lore, so, uh, I’ll try not to disappear entirely until I’ve finished reading it, and I think next week I could be ready)

    Personally, I only use Chummer for character creation. Once gameplay has done, I maintain the sheet manually wherever it’s posted, whether on the official forums or on Obsidian Portal or elsewhere. So changes in karma costs don’t affect me much in the sense of having to override Chummer functionality.

    Alternatively, since we’re all GMing and since none of the rules are hugely unbalancing, we could just say, “Play whichever way you want.” I’m not sure it really matters if one person has Automatics and another person has Small Arms. Each have pros and cons. (Melee weapons would be a minor exception to this, since Blades+Clubs together is obviously better than either on their own, but this wouldn’t have a big impact on us.) Similarly, a couple karma points here and there is not going to unbalance us.

    I might ask for a gentleman’s agreement to avoid Ares Alphas, but as Mato is the only one who would really pursue that, it ends up being an agreement with myself.

    I didn’t know that the Neo-Anarchist Streetpedia is dropping next week. That’s interesting. I would almost want to review that before running something of my own, just because I prize staying as close to canon as I can. Is there a confirmed date for that or is it still a rumor at this point? If it’s pretty soon then I could kick off the interlude shortly after, once I’ve had time to make sure that nothing I have planned conflicts with the updated canon.

    One of the freelancers (Opti) stated that it would be next week. I assume he wouldn’t have said something so definite if he wasn’t confident.

    I’d be fine with a lull, if that ends up working best.

    @Tecumseh
    As to what to run next: One of your short interludes, Beta’s story, interlude, my story seems a good fit 🙂

    It sounds like Gilga is in France this week.

    Opti has all-but-announced the lore-heavy Streetpedia, which sounds like it’s dropping late Tuesday night / early Wednesday morning: https://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=29135.0

    With that in mind, let’s target early next week to kick off the interlude. Hopefully that gives Gilga enough time to be back on a regular cadence and me enough time to digest what’s in the Streetpedia and adjust things accordingly.

    Yes, I am having a blast in Paris – though I view it from the perspective of what would be fun for a 2 and a 4 years old.

    (sorry for going way off topic here) I’m glad you are having a good time! I love Paris, but I wouldn’t think the easiest of cities to explore with small kids. I could see the attractions of the metro, chocolate crepes, the Eiffel tower … but I run dry pretty quickly. Glad you are finding things they are enjoying!

    I’m sure you have your plans, and I don’t know when you head home, but if you can make it out to Versailles on Saturday when the fountains are running, I highly recommend it. The landscaping at Versailles really is impressive (and has much space for kids to run around in), and I think the fountains are quite remarkable (they also consumed more water than the city of Paris, at the time they were constructed, if I remember properly. Read about the Machine de Marly some time, that was built to help provide the water)

    Welp, tonight’s announcement was much, much different than what I expected.

    Opti, as a casual aside about 55 minutes into the broadcast, said that he thinks Streetpedia is dropping today/Wednesday but that he “doesn’t have any inside info”: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/418704682?t=02h55m48s

    Sounds like it will be the next Sixth World Almanac.

    Ugh, Streetpedia needs to drop ASAP, and distract me from the people already complaining about the new edition based on summaries of an introductory podcast. But my complusive checking of drivethrurpg hasn’t hit upon any joy yet.

    I admire you for caring so much, I started playing only 5E and by the time they got to Rigger 5 I was already sick of all the rules and stopped following. So many poorly edited books.

    The hope is that sixth edition (officially “ShadowRun Sixth World”) will have better editing and more streamlined rules. Given that it is largely the same people at Catalyst in charge of it as with fifth I’m trying to keep my expectations low. But I’m really hoping for something a lot cleaner to use than fifth was, so it is hard not to get a bit excited. We’ll see.

    It will definitely be a discussion to have at some point later this year about continuing everything in 5th versus re-booting in 6th.

    Well, I did not get the impression that they playtest their own rules or even that they even understand them. I got the impression that they follow Jack’s exploits and make them formal rules/ make them illegal. He is the person I think has the most impact on SR rules outside of the authors.

    That might be a bit too much influence attributed to me – I know of only two such occassions 🙂
    That said, I’m a bit skeptical in regard to the new rules. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtcHfpf5SQU doesn’t give me the highest hopes…

    Catalyst doesn’t give me the highest hopes, based on track record … but I’m going to insist on being optimistic for as long as I can! :p

    I’m cautiously optimistic. I enjoyed Complex Action’s video and thought it was funny, especially the asides about the addiction and crash rules.

    I’ve only been playing Shadowrun for 26 of the game’s 30 years, which makes me a hopeless rookie in the eyes of some, but I’ve honestly enjoyed each edition and I’ve honestly thought that each edition significantly improved on the previous one. I’ll be the first to admit that 5th Edition is far from perfect – and I have dozens of house rules to prove it – but I have every hope that we’ll continue on the upward trajectory that we’ve maintained ever since the game was originally released.

    I could parse each bullet point of what we know so far and offer opinions about each, but at this point I’ll just wait for the Quick Start Rules. I’ll be eager to try them out in one forum or another soon after they launch. Hopefully they come with Food Fight.

    Separately, I’m not sure that the release of the Neo-Anarchist’s Streetpedia is imminent. Opti said he thought it was dropping today, but he also admitted that he didn’t have any inside information. However, I did find two online stores with pre-sales available, both of which said June 2019. (The more specific of the two said June 28th.) We might be launching the interlude without it.

    How much appetite do people have for exploring the game setting? Specifically, the Redmond Barrens and Touristville in this case. I mean understanding who all the power players are, how they make money, the politics among them, the swirling rumors, stuff like that. I like to include it in open-world games, since it provides depth and context to the world, but if not of interest to the group then I won’t go to the effort of diving too deeply.
