My post from last night doesn’t seem to have stuck — must not have hit submit properly. Well, no damage done, all it basically said was that the other side had enough matrix presence that he’d only get to do one overt matrix move.

Looks like Preston has some hacking to do … which means I have a bunch of dice rolling to do. I’ll try to get to it this weekend, but as this is the first stretch of really nice weather we’ve had this Spring I don’t promise that I’ll sit down for long enough before Monday.

I can do the rolls for you if you tell me what you want to do

I don’t even know yet, but let’s get started.

Hunh, I didn’t have the ‘vecotred signal filter’ (2 point noise reduction deck module) written down, despite believing that it was there all through Texas Hold’em. I arbitrarily added it to his character sheet now and took off the 800 nuyen (he didn’t have anything written down in the way of deck modules, but I know that was the intended module).
    – bought the Perceptive 1 quality (10 karma)

    – hot sim, running silent. deck loaded with smoke and mirrors and stealth. 1 noise due to distance likely, 4 points noise reduction from datajack and deck, so will put smoke and mirrors at 3 for now. ASDF 1/7/4/1 for the moment (they have to see him before they can do anything, so will stint firewall for the moment)

    hof: 15d6t5 8 limits to 7
    host resist: 14d6t5 6
He gets in (barely). 1 mark, OW +6

He’ll then observe in detail, and even if running silent will update his avatar to match the environment better, first re-configuring ASDF to 1/5/6/1

    matrix perception: 13d6t5 8 limits to 6

Next steps depend on what it looks like inside (and how much IC is apparent).

Anyone have suggestions on what they’d like done in the matrix at this point? I’ve tossed two posts so far because they were really just fiddling around without a plan.

My thoughts are pretty basic and in the IC I just posted.

Beyond that, if you have a chance to snatch any particular data:

    (1) Have they done anything to Seljanov that would complicate his rescue (nasty implants, brainwashing, whatever)?

    (2) Do they have any files on us? Anything to suggest they know about us?

    (3) But ANY other data is useful in figuring out whatever puzzles Jack certainly has in store for us.

If we can get a location on the target we can try and blitz through and out… having Preston run point on any doors in the way would help but may be asking too much if there’s an AI actively guarding the host… just out of curiosity, does it look possible to go through the walls or are they more solid than ‘tent’ implies?? Not that Lily wants to wreak havoc, this is me as a PC asking 😀

The walls are relatively thin and can be easily punctured.
That said, that would let the air out and collapse the tent.
Therefore, that is more an exit strategy… ?

    ASDF 1/7/4/1, smoke & mirrors 4
resist being seen: resist matrix percep: 13d6t5 5

Then to examine the ‘controls’ to map out what cameras are along the route (and maybe doors), he’ll matrix perception if he makes it there. Use 2 free actions to swap to 1/5/6/1 during perception, then back to the default after:
    matrix percep: 13d6t5 6

Now for putting some sort of loop on cameras, does it count as editing files only (which uses his existing marks on the host), or does he need to get marks on the cameras in question?

MARKs only flow upwards, so you need to mark the cameras indiviually.
Fortunately, while you are in the host they count as directly connected to you and only defend with 4 dice each.
Along the intended route there are six devices to fool. The last one is the maglock of the quarantain cell.

Jack, stuck with just my phone tonight, making rolling dice awkward. Preston should be able to buy hits on the sloth-cameras. He will check on the patrol IC, then mark all six of interest before giving the go signal. Then to start editting files as needed. Assuming he isn’t spotted first ( still running smoke and mirrors at four, asdf=1/7/4/1, intuition 6 so I think 17 dice versus being spotted. (Which this host could well crack.)

Perception for Lily 10D +3D visual
    = 5 hits + 2 hits visual ?

Sneaking not so hot, 15D = 4 hits

Jack: let me know if/when you want matrix rolls. I’m happy to sit back for the moment; I just wanted to be clear that I’m here and paying attention and ready to roll (in a couple of ways) again.

Preston is running stealth and smoke-and-mirrors (4), so effectively his deck at 1/11/4/1, using logic on that gives him 18 (somehow I got 19 out of that originally and I rolled that –removing the last die from each roll doesn’t change successes)
    matrix stealth: 19d6t5 9
matrix stealth: 19d6t5 4 <- OK, that is close!

Once the flares go up he is going to
    1) send a message to the team
    2) try to encrypt the files containing the camera information — that should keep the other side from getting full intel until the AI (or a spider) thinks to decrypt them. Probably won’t last for long, but he’ll take what he can manage.

Changes out Stealth for Edit, changing ASDF to 1/10/4(6 for edit)/1 , but then he’ll use paired free actions to bring it to 1/9/5(7)/1 during his actions.

First a couple more stealth rolls at the lower dice:
    matrix stealth: 17d6t5 6
    matrix stealth: 17d6t5 4

Then as many edit file actions (to put on encryption) as he can get away with until noticed (not all of these may apply). He’ll start with the cameras most towards the hub.
    1) edit file (encrypt): 15d6t5 3 vs
    camera resist encrypt (2×4=8): 8d6t5 1
    =4 dice to resist decrypt
    2) edit file (encrypt): 15d6t5 5
    camera resist encrypt (2×4=8): 8d6t5 3
    =4 dice to resist decrypt
    3) edit file (encrypt): 15d6t5 3
    camera resist encrypt (2×4=8): 8d6t5 4
    =not encrypted
    4) edit file (encrypt): 15d6t5 8
    camera resist encrypt (2×4=8): 8d6t5 1
    =14 dice to resist decrypt
    5) edit file (encrypt): 15d6t5 7
    camera resist encrypt (2×4=8): 8d6t5 3
    =8 dice to resist decrypt
    6) edit file (encrypt): 15d6t5 6
    camera resist encrypt (2×4=8): 8d6t5 4
    =4 dice to resist decrypt

@Beta – great to see a decker in action for real. Way too little of that in SR-as-actually-played. Largely because it’s a lot of work/study on the player’s part.

Hat off to you. An asset and a pleasure.

Jack: I’m not going to bother rolling on the encryption of other cameras because I don’t think it matters much how encrypted they are, the issue is more ‘how long does he go undected, so how many cameras can he mess with?’

Speaking of which, here are some more go-undected rolls, so you have them on hand when you need them.

    matrix stealth: 17d6t5 5
    matrix stealth: 17d6t5 6
    matrix stealth: 17d6t5 8
    matrix stealth: 17d6t5 6
    matrix stealth: 17d6t5 5

Hi guys can you give me a brief of where we are? I never seem to catch up.

    Sure.

Figured out it was going to take way too long to actually get invited to the Mars base at Mt St Helens.

Drove there and set up camp on the other side of a ridge from their fake Mars base.

Al, Lily, and Becky went down to scout the camp. Successfully stealthed up close.

From our camp, Preston has hacked their host thanks to a data tap we installed.

Based on a sudden rainstorm and Preston finding where Veljanov is probably being kept, we decided to go in immediately.

So Preston has killed the cameras and so far no alarm.

We are all inside the Mars camp thing, which is sort of a giant set of tents connected by tent corridors.

We ran into some people and Lily shocked them unconscious, but their biomonitors screamed for help.

We almost made it to Medical, where we THINK Veljanov is, but some people were coming – probably just medics to help the people we knocked down, since Preston says still no cameras and no alarm.

So we ducked into the first room we saw to avoid the people coming down the hall. In the room is some scientist who is talking about a way to cure head-cases without hurting benign nanites, and he’s so into his work that he hasn’t even noticed three runners have come into his lab. Al is talking to him.

Meanwhile, one of the we think two artificial intelligences in the camp host is talking to Preston.
