It won’t be the end of SR5, or Bronwean I wouldn’t think so don’t worry about that, I have a sneaking suspicion it’s going to be an uphill struggle to get Adam and Jack to adopt SR6 so there will still be ‘5’ games going on 🙂 …at least until there are enough splat books to recreate the current crop of characters in a similar form in ‘6’

I have be thinking (yes the smoke alarm triggered) I think the new characters generation system is to stop min maxing. I’ll bet the main writer cut his teeth on traveller.
I was thinking what possible background could give you the shooting skills of a Sniper and the medical skills of a surgeon?

My one big hope for sixth is that they find a way to make the life modules system work better. But I doubt we wait long enough to see that

I’m old, I played traveller 2300ad and twilight 2000 all career systems . The career system never produces high powered characters. It’s always a wrench for players used to using points systems. It deliberately limiting

    @Electric_muppet

If that was their aim they failed misserably. Minmaxing is even more important now than it was before if you want to have a chance of survival.
Having two full actions is a top tier achievement now and anyone who can manage that dominates one-on-one combat.
The easiest way to get that by the current rules is to be a mys-adept (go figure).
Strength had been made a worse dump stat than before (where physical limit at least prompted you to invest at least a bit)
There is no more dabbling in combat – you now are either a weapons expert or you can go home.
Edge build up is meaningless if you manage to subdue your opponent early on.
    Grenade thrower builds are unstoppable
APDS has become a sad joke – it penetrates cover worse than regular armor.
    Explosive Ammo is king now.
Cutting down the lethality with bad weapon damage while also removing armor soak makes combat drawn out for non-optimized characters. Which in turn means: Before you have subdued your opponent he’ll have had plenty of time to harm you, turning most combats into Phyrric victories.
Getting cyberware above 1 essence is now as good as a death sentence as it’s disproportionately difficult to heal you – no matter if mundane or magic.
Guess who comes out on top of that. Starts with an M and ends with agic user…

Sounds like they are trying to make the fight the last resort not the first. A more covert and sneaky game. Whether they have succeeded is to be tested. My gripe is the poor wording of rules, they never carry any commonality through their nouns and verbs. I work with lawyers all day. I read some of these rule and can read them three different ways. Very frustrating

If that was the case, they probably should have invested more energy and time into developing the stealth and social rules
No, your observation is absolutely on the mark: It’s a poorly edited system.

Going to buy the rules the weekend and start in, probably an idea to break each others build to learn the tweaks and hammer out an understanding of the interpretation of the rules

Yah, I’m going to break down and buy the CRB6 soon. The test for me is mostly ‘how well does it let me make the characters I’m interested in making.’ SR5 is a bit mixed on that front but overall supports a fair variety of approaches if you are only looking for ‘decent’ — although that is often due to being able to squeeze in a bit of standard cheese to juice up a build. I kind of don’t even want to touch 6th edition, but my curiosity about building characters is getting the best of me.

You can probably experiment with the excel generator I built without needing to purchase the rules… it’s not that different ?

Darn it, I’ve had a character idea. Now to see how well it works in 6th edition rules, but nothing too weird involved so it should at least be feasible even with just the CRB — the real question is how much of the backstory is eligible for negative qualities :p

Rumour has that the physical CRB will be coming out on October 13th. My e-reader seems to have died, so at this point I’ll hold out to get the physical copy (I hate trying to read any substantial amount on a laptop). I’ll probably need that before I’m willing to call a character done, in order to choose qualities and make sure I understand the implication of choices.

Ok folks… been thinking about this some more, I think FA is actually going to take longer than I’d anticipated, especially if you agree to follow up the Paris encounter with the jaunt I have planned for you. That said I’ve currently got capacity for another pbp thread and I’m thinking of making the radical step of opening an IC thread back up on ShadowGrid again (something I didn’t think I’d say!). @Jack_Spade I know you’ve got a presence there, @Electric_Muppet, do you? @Beta, given what you’ve said I’m guessing you won’t want to commit to this until FA is well and truly done (although there’s a slot for you if you want it!). We may even get one or two new players from SG to bolster you die hards 😀 @adamu… whilst I’m hoping you’ll change your mind and join us I’m not expecting it 🙂

I will run an SR6 game here once FA is actually finished, unless it proves that SR6 is crap for pbp but i don’t think it will be…

Not sure if I remember the login but yeah. What’s the edition level and such (long shot but can someone help me get my head round tecnomancers)

Huh, well I hadn’t thought to return there, but yeah, a demonstration of SR6 certainly is a good idea there… 😉

    EDIT

I think I can make this work. My stint GM’ing Forgotten Arcana is mercifully almost done, and Zag is pretty low stress to play, so those two games should not be too time consuming for a while. Shooting Stars may have some busy points but I think I can juggle that with another game.

tl;dr you had me at “The run will probably be fairly ‘hooder’ based”

https://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=30358.0 recruitment and OoC over on SG… 🙂

@Electric_Muppet as far as I can gather people are saying TMs are a bit better in SR6… beyond that you probably need to scan the rules or at the very least my excel generator. They aren’t radically different from previous editions!

@Beta: Awesome! Can you put a note on the SG thread too please 🙂

Edit: Never mind, I see you have done 😀

@Beta, @Electric_Muppet, how are you guys doing with characters for DSH? If you just want to get bare bones up that is fine, you know me, happy to give plenty of leeway, but I’d like to start posting IC next week if possible!

I’m working on it. Thinking I might just keep throwing pregen from the book at it until I get a feel for it
These new rules are written to remove “we go through the front door, shooting” as an option

@Beta @Jack_Spade in case you’ve missed it, IC is up on SG… not chasing you, there’s no real rush but it’s easy to miss ??
