    will oversummon a spirit of man — summon at force 4, but with Spirit Whisperer it is functionally force 5. Will pre-edge the summon roll
    summon F4(>5) Sp o’Man: 11d6h5 8 pre-edged to no limit on the roll
    spirit resist: 5d6t5 3 (ugh, drain will be brutal …)
    resist drain: 12d6t5 4
    So, Force 5 spirit, 5 services, Jawsey takes 2 physical damage
    Optional Power is fear

    ** Edge: 2 of 4 remaining

    @beta
    That’s a solid summoning roll, with 2 extra hits off exploding 6s.

    Go ahead and roll Initiative for Granny Iron-Teeth.

    @jack_spade
    In your IC post, are you restating your IP1 actions or are you jumping ahead to IP2?

    What’s the fetish that Bobby uses with Shapechange?

    What’s with the two drain rolls? Even if you rolled too many dice on the first one, if we drop dice from the end of the roll it still looks sufficient to handle the drain.

    Granny Bones is of course initially astral, since Jawsey hasn’t asked anything of her yet.
    spirit init (astral): 10+3d6 23

    @Tecumseh
    Sorry, that was a result of rewriting my post – I first wanted to turn into an alligator, before getting the idea of turning into the Librarian.
    Basically, Bobby wants to mock the tough guy for not wanting to fight against a bear.
    I just didn’t think to reuse the first drain test.
    Bobby’s fetish is a feather token on an elastic band. Usually worn around his wrist or neck, depending on size of his form

    So, just to be clear, was that latest IC post for IP1 or IP2?

    Here’s the first pass then. Many of the gangers, still seeing the giant bear (before it transforms again in IP2) will pop some stims:

    CT1, IP1
    Bobby @ 29 – Heightened Concern (Complex)
    Granny Iron-Teeth @ 23 – (summoned, on astral)
    #1 Ork (spokesman) @ 18 – Delayed Action, Speak a Phrase (Free)
    AM @ 15 – Delayed Action
    Jawsey @ 14 – Summoning Granny Iron-Teeth
    #2 Ork (female) – Take Aim, Unknown
    #3 Ork (male) – Take Aim, Use Simple Device (Inhaler)
    #4 Ork (male) – Take Aim, Use Simple Device (Inhaler)
    #5 Human (male) – Take Aim, Use Simple Device (Inhaler)
    #6 Troll (male) – Take Aim, Use Simple Device (Inhaler)

    And then CT1 IP2 will start this way:
    Bobby @ 19 – Spellcasting
    The stims consumed in IP1 by #3/4/5/6 will change the initiative order during IP2. Jawsey and AM, being intelligent, will understand this.

    @gilga
    Let me know if you have any delayed actions for the end of IP1. From your IC post it sounds like a Take Cover (Simple Action), which is very reasonable. You have one more Simple Action, which you could use for Observe in Detail or something else if you like.

    AM would use the last action to make the watcher distract the gangers with manifestation and loud sounds. Hopefully having a semi-transparent buffalo playfully appearing in their mids will nullify their take aim actions because they’ll instinctively look at the watcher.

    @gilga
    Sounds good.

    Do we have stats for the watcher? I know AM had an F6 watcher during Chapter III. I don’t think we’ve rolled a watcher in this interlude, but if we did please remind me. I’m fine if AM has a watcher just hanging around by default, as I know the nature of interlude doesn’t give the standard prep time.

    I ask because the Force informs the Initiative, which we’ll need for the initiative order to know when it appears and who it affects as a result.

    She has a Govi to preserve the watcher, (and I rolled for it at the beginning of the previous chapter) it is the same F6 watcher. However, notice that the watcher cannot harm anything physical so I am not sure that we strictly need its stats unless you plan for spirits to interfere.

    Well your command is for the watcher to interfere (in a way), so we need to know where that happens in the sequence of events. We’ll say that the watcher manifests at the end of IP1.

    Final:

    CT1, IP1
    Bobby @ 29 – Heightened Concern (Complex)
    Granny Iron-Teeth @ 23 – (summoned, on astral)
    #1 Ork (spokesman) @ 18 – Delayed Action, Speak a Phrase (Free)
    Watcher @16 – Delays until AM orders it to manifest
    AM @ 15 – Take Cover, Order Watcher
    Jawsey @ 14 – Summoning Granny Iron-Teeth
    #2 Ork (female) – Take Aim, Unknown
    #3 Ork (male) – Take Aim, Use Simple Device (Inhaler)
    #4 Ork (male) – Take Aim, Use Simple Device (Inhaler)
    #5 Human (male) – Take Aim, Use Simple Device (Inhaler)
    #6 Troll (male) – Take Aim, Use Simple Device (Inhaler)

    Now, redoing the format a bit to see if this makes it easier to read, we go onto IP2:

    CT1, IP2
    19: Bobby – Spellcasting
    13: Granny Iron-Teeth – (on astral, delayed action, awaiting instructions)
    11: #6 Troll (male) – Pick Up Object (rock), Throw Weapon
    9: #3 Ork (male) – Delayed Action → Observe in Detail after watcher appears
    8: #1 Ork (spokesman) – Delayed Action, Speak a Phrase (Free), walks forward ~3 meters
    8: #4 Ork (male) – Delayed Action
    8: #5 Human (male) – Delayed Action → Fires (SS) on Watcher
    6: Watcher – Distraction
    5: AM –
    4: Jawsey –
    3: #2 Ork (female) – Speak a Phrase (Free)

    The troll (#2), hopped up on combat stims, is going to pick up a chunk of broken pavement and chuck it at Bobby. This is going to earn the troll a sharp whistle and a glare from the female ork (#2), costing her a Free Action and breaking her aim.

    After this rebuke, #3 #4 and #5 are going to hold their actions… until the watcher appears. I’m going to roll Composure for them to see how they respond. This might normally be an easy test but I’ll up their threshold since they’re jumpy and on drugs.

    #3 – Composure: 7d6t5 1 hit, looks, Observe in Detail, breaks aim
    #4 – Composure: 7d6t5 2 hits, doesn’t look, maintains aim on Bobby
    #5 – Composure: 6d6t5 0 hits, looks, panics, opens fire (SS) on the watcher

    #5 can’t hurt the watcher so I’m not going to roll that. I will roll for the troll (#2) although it’s unclear whether he’s actually trying to hit Bobby or if he’s just trying to vent some frustration and/or generate a response. He’s a big, strong dude so we’ll call this Medium range, Accuracy 3.

    #2 – Agility 4 (5) + Thrown Weapons 2 – Range 1: 6d6t5 1 hit

    Damage is 10S if it somehow connects.

    #1 (the spokesman) looks satisfied with the orangutan form and walks forward to meet it. He’s not walking that fast so he’s still ~17 meters from Bobby.

    Next
    @jack_spade Dodge 1 hit.
    @gilga AM @ 5
    @beta Jawsey @ 4 (and Granny Iron-Teeth if she gets directions

    Defense: 13d6t5 5
    If I see this correctly, the guy is on guard and intends to interrupt my attack with one of his own. But I think he has to declare a trigger for that:

    A player can declare a Delayed Action on any of his Initiative Passes and can continue to delay action until a later Initiative Pass. When the character decides to act, he replaces his normal Action Phase for that Initiative Pass with the Delayed Action and then acts on an Initiative Score lower than their own. During the Declare Actions part of that Initiative Pass, the character must declare that he is intervening at a specific Initiative Score. He can make that declaration when it is time for players with that score to act. Characters who have a Delayed Action and intervene in this manner can choose to go before, after, or at the same time as a currently acting character who would normally take his action on that Initiative Score; any actions they take receive a –1 dice pool penalty. If multiple characters delay their actions until the same Initiative Score, they break the tie in the same manner as Initiative (p. 159).

    Which is just as well since Bobby has Counterstrike
    Charge Attack: Charge Attack: 20d6t5 8
    8S + net hits
    Should he chose to attack me before I can get to him, Bobby will use Counterstrike, hopefully beating his attack roll:
    Counter Strike: 16d6t5 5

    I would use delayed action, AM is going to spray them with bullets if they try to harm Bobby but would not do anything aggressive otherwise.

    Jawsey’s decides NOT to lose his spirit on the gangers, since it is looking something like a fair fight at the moment. But might as well get it in position in case it is needed.

    (Granny Iron Teeth may be related to the witches in Russian folklore. Not sure if he learned of her while working with the Vory or if early Russian fur traders added some stories to Haida folklore or if Jawsey found her all by himself)

    @gilga
    “Tatanka” (or tatonka, whichever) is indeed the Lakota word for “buffalo”. It might be the most widely known word in Lakota, as it was a key plot point in the movie Dances With Wolves, winner of seven Academy Awards including Best Picture.

    @All
    There are a lot of issues with how to abstract something that’s continuous (time) into a turn-based system. Delayed Actions are one of them. The fact that we’re conducting things via play-by-post compounds the matter, as many of the rules assume a face-to-face format where the feedback – and interruptions – are easier and more fluid.

    To Jack’s point, per the rules someone should declare when they intend to act. In practice, as the GM I’m declaring it to myself to preserve a bit of IC/OOC separation.

    As for delayed actions, the rules technically allow you to carry an action from one initiative pass to the next, but then they undercut that by applying the -10 initiative modifier when the IP changes. So, per the book, that means that AM and Jawsey technically can’t delay their IP2 actions until IP3 – because rolling 10 off the initiative counter will put them in the negative – but I don’t play it that way. As a courtesy to the players, I allow actions from one IP to roll over to the next IP if the player wouldn’t have an action in that IP. Case-in-point, AM and Jawsey have IP2 actions but not IP3 actions (not enough initiative), so I’ll let them delay their IP2 actions to IP3. The flip side, of course, is that the opposition can do the same.

    Running Wild doesn’t have orangutans but it does have chimpanzees, which I’ll use as a proxy. The book gives chimpanzees a x4 movement modifier for running, which means that Bobby can start running on IP2 and arrive during IP3.

    Bobby’s charge doesn’t trigger any delayed actions from #2, or #4. They don’t open fire and, for the moment, seem content to play referee.

    #1, seeing the charge, declares a Parry Interrupt Action. His Physical Limit is 10, so technically he has a chance to meet or exceed Bobby’s 8 hits. Not a great chance, but a chance.

    Reaction + Intuition + Clubs + Specialization + Reach: 16d6t5 3 hits

    Well that didn’t go well. Looks like he’s on the hook for 13S. He does have a decent soak pool.

    Body + Armor + Cyber Armor: 21d6t5 9 hits (forgot one die so I rolled it separately but it wasn’t a hit)

    It’s midnight for me and I need to go to bed so I won’t IC post this now.

    @Jack_Spade If you like, you can post Bobby punching the dude in the guts to the tune of 4S.
    @gilga AM can act in IP3 using her Delayed Action from IP2.
    @Beta Your IC post covers IP2 for Granny Iron Teeth. She can continue to act in IP3 per Jawsey’s instructions. Is she trying to actively cause a distraction (like the manhole cover moving), or is she just there to surprise/ambush the gangers in case as a backup plan?
    @All Roll Initiative for IP3.

    She wanted to use matrix perception but figured she would not take her eyes from the pack. So what she would observe in detail. Unless someone acts against Bobby before her turn.

    @Tecumseh Granny Iron-Teeth is being quiet so far, although if anyone is watching behind the gangers they would see her.

    Jawsey got kind of a 3 part plan
    1) Do the gangers have someone covering their rear? If they do they might alert the others to the spirit, which would reveal something about the ganger’s degree of organization
    2) If random neighbourhood people are watching, well it doesn’t hurt for them to see that the team has multiple potential weapons
    3) If any of the gangers interfere in the fight between Bobby and the orc (or if things are going badly), then he can order her to start trying to scare the gangers, and there is no additional delay before she can do that. ( If things end peacefully he might let scare one of the lower rank ones anyway just to keep her happy and to make a point that they could have interfered earlier but didn’t –then again her dice pool advantage is apt to be small enough that it is not a sure thing)

    @beta
    The gangers are in two C-shapes, one inside the other. The inner C (gangers #1-6 that have been in Initiative) is focused on Bobby. The outer C (gangers #7-14 that aren’t in Initiative) is looking outward, watching the perimeter.

    I figure that there’s a 5-6 meter buffer between the two Cs. That gives Granny Iron Teeth a bit of space to pop up in between the two layers without being immediately noticed – because each layer is facing away from her – unless she wants to be noticed.

    @gilga
    Noted. Given Jawsey’s plan for Granny Iron Teeth, I don’t see anyone interfering during IP3. The gangers might shout/coach a bit, but they’re not going to intervene. As such, you can roll Matrix Perception (Complex) or a couple Observe in Detail (Simple) if you like. If you do, please tell me if AM is looking for / paying attention to anything in particular.
