Kynos nodded to his two companions: “Alright, now comes the dicy part. So far my drone has done nothing illegal in the net, execpt editing some files. Now it needs to do a control device thingy with the elevator. There’s a good chance that could be noticed. – Or we could risk climbing down the shaft, holding on to the rails. Less obvious but much more dangerous. I think my armor will take the heat from sliding and Lilly’s chrome should have much a problem with it either. But it’s a hell of a long way down. Batshit, how good are your mittens? Enough strength in your fingers?”

“I get your point. All my gears combat grade, but that rail will be greased. Sliding down won’t be an issue, stopping may well be the issue. I can climb and jump my way down but it will be noisy and we have thousands of feet to go”

“Point taken, the rumbly elevator it is then. Get in position, we might still have to use the slip’n slide if my little buddy frags up.”

The drone had reattached to the backpack, using the position inside the host for direct connections.

    Spoiler:

Alright, now, the drone has to do illegal actions, so Ini might be relevant.

    Ini: 4d6+8 30

    Not bad at all

    Agent Ini: 8+4d6 17

Damn, For the first round, Drone has to delay until Agent is done with its calculations

So, Smoke and Mirror at max to be extra stealthy, Agent assisting with putting a MARK

    Agent: 8d6t5 4

    Nice

    Watchdog: 12d6t5 4

    Lift resists:

    Lift: 4d6t5 2

MARK achieved – Overwatch increases by 2

1 MARK should be enough to use Control Device on the lift

    2nd Phase:

Drone delays until Agent is done with Teamwork: Agent Teamwork: 8d6t5 1

    Drone Control Device: 9d6t5 1

    Lift: 4d6t5 2

I’m spending Edge on behalf of my drone

    Edge Reroll: 8d6t5 1

A draw – at least no alerts blare

Agent is out of actions, Drone trys again on its own

    Drone Control Device: 8d6t5 3

    Lift: 4d6t5 0

    And there you go

Drone even has one action left to keep the current camera edited

Kynos gave a mental command. For a moment a puzzled look appeared on his face as his HUD showed him an error message, but then the lift started moving – without any alarms blaring.

The drone enters the command to take them to the SnoLab level, and the platform starts its steady descent into darkness. Presumably normally lights are turned on for the elevator but it seems to be a separate function, and the trio are not overly bothered by the dark.

The descent is slow enough that clearing their ears from the growing pressure is easy, although getting to used to the slightly changed quality of sound takes a small bit of effort. After the descend for a while the temperature starts rising, and by the time they reach their stopping point calibrated thermographic measures show the rocks at 42C, although ventilation seems to be keeping the air down to not much over 30C.

There is quite a large chamber where they arrive, apparently the common arrival area for both this elevator and an even larger freight elevator. A few tunnels branch off, but fortunately the route to SnoLab is clearly marked, and even dimly lit. It is a tunnel large enough to drive a truck down — and indeed there are even lane markings.

From the maps that they’d found in the matrix and on the wall of the dormitory building they know that it is over a kilometer to the entrance to SnoLab proper. A fairly straight stone tube seems like a shadowrunner’s nightmare, but there seems to be a shocking lack of security infrastructure, at least at this end.

Lily shrugged gracefully and, making sure that her companions could keep up, set off at a loping run down the tunnel that would rapidly eat up the distance between them and their quarry. As she ran she reached in to her belt pouch and took out the two small flying orbs that were each loaded with an anti-camera gun. She scattered them in to the air ahead of her and with a low hum they set off to find and neutralise any watching eyes. She allowed their video feed to occupy a small window in her augmented reality window as an early warning of what lay ahead…

Kynos followed, giving his drone the command to reboot while Lily took care of the defenses for a while.

Being swift of foot and reasonably fit, he was able to match Lily’s (reduced) pace, his long strides eating up ground efficiently like his companions.

Bronwean skittered along behind the two, as she ran to keep up she pulled her goggles on and switch on the ultra sound and motion detection. She was starting to regret wearing the snow suit it was warm down here. As the ran she kept her eyes way from where they were headed and looking at the flanks and rear

After a few moments running the heat began to take its toll… although her cybernetic body didn’t feel fatigue in the way a meat one would the dangers of overheating were just as real, except to servos and myomer muscle bundles rather than their biological equivalents. Before they potentially had to exert themselves in a combat situation, although that would be a last resort, it was worth taking a moment to address the risk.

    > Wait a second, this heat could cause us issues if we’re exposed too long. Give me a moment

And she stripped off the heavy polar suit so that she was left standing in the thin insulated bodyglove underneath. She bundled the gear up and secured it with a cord and slung that over her shoulder. She would have preferred to leave it somewhere but that risked losing track of it and subsequently facing the dangers of exposure if they had to resurface without it…

Kynos hadn’t bothered opening his visor: “You know, I specifically stole this armor because it would keep me cool in hot areas and warm in the cold. Otherwise the thermal dampening and fire resistance effect wouldn’t work.

But I certainly won’t stop you showing skin – could buy us a second or two if a guard spots you.”

There wasn’t even a trace of a lear in his voice, just cold calculation about all available assets and how to employ them to maximum effect.

If Lily was bothered by Kynos’ frank appraisal she didn’t show it. She knew she didn’t have much to leer at in the traditional sense but if Kynos thought it would give them an edge…

    > Not much skin here

She replied waving a cybernetic hand at him without breaking stride

    > I’ll get the number of your tailor when we get out of here, for now I don’t want to roast

It didn’t take the team long to come in sight of the end of the tunnel. A wall, a human sized door, a vehicle sized door, some cameras, and a large “SnoLab” logo in an outdated font. It is visible where newer, wireless, tech has been attached to the older infrastructure as they hadn’t bothered to re-paint over the welds and bolts.

The team was well equipped with technology to defeat this barrier, however. Drones looped cameras, another drone dealt with the lock. Radar failed to show anyone moving on the other side. A careful look through the human sized door showed a large bank of lockers, two racks of clean room suits, and a large sign with instructions about how to avoid bringing contamination into the lab areas (showers, change of clothes, proper donning of the clean room suits, all with the right process behind it). Additionally there was a wired in phone and a list of numbers to dial to arrange escorts for visitors.

It is up to the team on how much they wish to risk the wrath of scientists if they do not decontaminate appropriately.

“Do me a favor and use the pressure washer over there on me. I can fit one of the troll decon suits about my armor.”

Kynos shrugged out of the long coat and stuffed it into the backpack. The troll sized suits weren’t a perfect fit, but they were roomy enough to contain him. Two rubberbands made sure the overall legs stayed in place without tripping him up.

Next he adviced cubo to exchange the sneak program for the wrapper to make all their icons seem like those of the regular employees upstairs.

“we gonna wipe it feet or just go raid the fridge in the rest room?” batshit joked, ”we could call room service”

She dramatically pulled the zipper on the combat jacket “you need to stop thinking like a soldier young bronwean” as she thought of at least three cooler prices of armour she possessed. Good job soldiers who test these thing get hot and sweaty as she opened the vents.

Bronwean looked at the growing mountain of equipment they were shedding. There was no way she would be able to smuggle her assault rifle in under the clean suit.

“wait up, let’s do it this way. Lilly and I go in and try and find Bobby, kynos stays here ready to stop any more visitors and if things go to guns he can come and back us up; and bring us the rifles and armour”

Kynos nodded: “Fair enough. I’ll send my drone with you to give you support”

Fortunately security seemed fairly light — people were supposed to move in and out of the robing rooms, so it was easy enough for Lilly and Batshit to look at the next stage beyond. Here there was a simple choice: a short corridor off to the right, at the end of which they could see branching tunnels with AR signs toward various projects. Off to the left was a long, gently curving, tunnel labeled physically and in AR (me to go back and find the name for the project that Bobby is on, and insert here. I should really write these things down), with reminder text “astral hygiene mandatory beyond this point.”

After running through the decontamination cycle with the helpful aid of some AR demonstations Lily had shrugged her way in to one of the isolation suits and locked down the visor. It was a little big but beat Kynos’ efforts with the troll suit…

    > Pretty certain I don’t have any astral contamination, I’m pretty much the opposite of astrally present, or so I’m told… so, we good to go and find our reluctant researcher?

Kynos made himself comfortable as much as he could, sitting down on a bench. The drone was transmitting clearly and Kynos idly thought that one of these days he should learn how to steer one. For the moment the pilot program was doing an admirable job of not bouncing from the walls.

    <<I’m scouting ahead a bit, stay tuned.>>

Batshit carefully wrapped her kit in a bundle so she go get to the good stuff fast when Kynos dropped it off. Then she followed Lilly through the decontamination cycle. Clutching the items she wanted to take with her. Forearm guards , smoke bomb and big morphing knife, which currently masquerade as as an armring. She also took her work comlink, Matlock passkey and her goggles and monical. The cream suit swamped her but she managed much to the amusement of her companions her comment “does anything look big in this?” Left them smiling.

“Should we take any breaking and entering gear?”

As they headed for the door she turned to Kynos “if you hear me say cover your ears use the best you have its important”

The tunnels here were lined in what looked like white plastic, with even the ground coated. The street markings were replaced with a pair of narrow gauge train tracks, and still a seperate pedestrian area.

Following the curving tunnel for a few minutes brought the pair to the sight of a rather solid looking wall with a serious looking security door, featuring both an ARO and an illuminated sign reading “Experiment in Progress: No Admittance.” It looks like the wall is also equipped with a pair of cameras, but they are likely focused closer to the wall rather than down at the curved tunnel where the pair are peaking around.
